Hello.

Who here has a couple of songs by The Cure that I can listen to?

Please.

I dunno how you propose to send them to me... over MSN perhaps??

Anyways, I'd really like to listen to a couple of their songs sometime in the next 2 weeks.

What are their most famous songs? I've heard of them, but I don't know anything about them.

Thanks for any help you care to give me on this..... ;)

And so concludes my part of my random (to you, but it makes perfect sense to me) thread of the night.

Lou you don't know who the Cure are??????

I know you are only young but they, Robert Smith, is an icon for all depressed, black wearing teenagers.

Songs you should know, listen to from the beginning.

boys don't cry

killing an arab (very politically incorrect now but based on the outsider by albert camus)

a forest

let's go to bed

caterpillar

Oh bugger it, just go here and have a listen.

Their best release is pornography and really anything after kiss me kiss me kiss me is a pale comparison of their earlier stuff.

(I think the way I placed that originally made me sound like I meant the songs, rather than the band. Umm.. but... yeh...)

Thanks for the link. ;)

"The Lovecats" is originally their song! Ohhhh... funny!! because I had a thing for the blonde guy outta oh-so-crappy teenypop 'band' the allSTARS (he who is now darren in hollyoaks... oh he's gone so downhill since his teenybop days!) ... and anyways, they did a cover of that. And it was SO bad that I actually had to mute it (and only continued to watch the vid because Des was on it.... lol... ahhh what am I like?!)

ANYways.......

Spoken like a true Ben Folds fan. Don't you realise he's just the Elton John of the 90s! Plus he lived in Adeliade for a while so there has to be something wrong with the man.

Anyway dinosaur jr's version of just like heaven is the class cover.

lou, if you pm me an email address I can send you some mp3s if you want.

The Cure aren't/weren't shit, that's just plain wrong. Hang your head in shame! They were a really signficant band of the late 80s/early 90s, lost count of how many times I have seen them. Headlined Glastonbury 1990 iirc, which was one of the best periods of my life.

Wouldn't listen to them much now, but then that's true of most bands of that era, like the Smiths, for instance. I wouldn't listen to them now either, but they gave a hell of a lot of pleasure at the time.

What's that like Jonny?

I've got a great french bossa nova cover of it but whenever someone mentions that they have a cover of love will tear us apart I always figure it is going to be like Paul Young's crap murdering of the song.

The purple haze covers are good, I've got the original Jimi covers cd they were recorded for.

Anyone heard The Glove - blue sunshine, a release Robert Smith did with Steve Severin from the Banshees? Awesome record if you can get it.

Is that a bad thing? I know He spends his time writing cartoon soundtracks or packing fudge these days, but he wrote Sturday Night's alright for fighting, Your Song and Tiny Dancer. Classics all.

It's close, but it's not the one.

No, in true Lou style, I'll be meeting a couple of them (Perry and Roger, apparently) in about 10 days time, and so I want to at least have some idea of who the hell they are.
