Well Ashley as done a brilliant job in lowering expectations.

20th most valuable club in world football, still the 5th biggest supported club in England and yet some people will be satisfied if we cling onto 17th place in the Premier League next season

Aye but if we hope for anything better than 17th, there'll be 20 different articles in the papers saying we're deluded.

Is this another post letting us know you're more passionate than most of us on here btw? ;)

What the fuck has my post about lowering expectations got to do with being more or less passionate than anyone else? Why dont you stick to the arguments rather than trying to score petty points?

No worries. Taking on from what HF said though, the tag 'richest' is always a misnomer for me because it's all about turnover and only turnover. That's not me sticking up for Ashley or buying into any of the bollocks about him 'putting his own money into the club' to save us etc., etc. Incidentally, it does my head how that is always emphasized in the press. I mean, who else's fucking money would it be? He owns the club lock, stock and barrel. It's made out he's doing it out of the goodness of his heart.

We're down to 40th from 20th still not that bad considering we were in the CCC and lost £45m TV money.

Still though look at this.

Deloitte estimate Premier League club Sunderland moved ahead of Newcastle, coming in somewhere between 30th and 40th in the rankings. In the 2008/2009 season Sunderland posted revenues of £64m.

Gate receipts at the Stadium of Light for the 2008/9 season were £14m compared to £30m in the same campaign for Newcastle.

That's in a RELEGATION season, completely emphasises and represents well the difference in size of the two clubs.

And we're back into 20th position.

Newcastle United re-enter the Money League in 20th

position after a three year absence. The Magpies had

been present in all 12 editions of the Deloitte Football

Money League up to and including the 2007/08 season

with their highest position being fifth in 1997/98. In

2011/12 revenue totalled £93.3m (€115.3m), an

increase of £4.8m (5%) from the previous year.

An increase of £7.1m (15%) in broadcast revenue is the

main reason behind Newcastle’s return to the Money

League. The team finished in fifth place in the Premier

League in 2011/12, their highest position since claiming

the same spot in 2003/04, compared with twelfth place

the season before thus earning an increase in Premier

League central distributions. Their league performance

secured qualification for the UEFA Europa League and

consequently the club can expect increased revenue

from UEFA distributions in 2012/13.

Matchday revenue totalled £23.9m (€29.5m) in 2011/12,

equating to 26% of revenue, with the club hosting the

same number of games in both seasons (20), and an

average league match attendance of 50,280

Commercial revenue decreased by £2m (13%) from the

previous year after a period of change on the

commercial front for the club. Mid-way through the

2011/12 season, Virgin Money took over as shirt

sponsor, after acquiring Northern Rock, with the

contract running for a further two seasons and an

improved deal with kit manufacturer Puma was secured

through to 2014.

Looking ahead, the club recently reported that shirt

sponsors Virgin Money will be replaced by loan

company Wonga.com from 2013/14, as part of a deal

which removes stadium naming rights branding and

means their home returns to being known as

St James’ Park. With European participation in 2012/13

and new commercial deals secured, the club will push to

remain in the Money League in next year’s edition,

although a top half Premier League finish will strengthen

that challenge.

NEWCASTLE United has been named the world’s 20th highest-earning football club.

Deloitte, the business advisory firm, last night revealed Newcastle’s revenue turnover for the 2011-12 season, when they finished fifth in the Premier League, rose to £99.3million from £88.5m. Newcastle’s rise back into the top 20, where they replaced Valencia, is proof that when it comes to making money, the Premier League completely overshadows both domestic cups and the Europa League.

English Premier League teams now occupy five of the top-ten places. However, it is Real Madrid who have proven to be the game’s biggest money-earner.

The Spaniards became the first club in any sport to surpass the 500m (£415m) revenue threshold in a single year.

Real, who won La Liga last season, achieved a 33.1m (7%) increase in revenue to 512.6m, and in doing so have claimed the top position in the money league for a record-equalling eighth year, matching Manchester United’s reign from 1996-97 to 2003-04. The combined revenues of the world’s 20 highest-earning football clubs have grown 10% on the previous year to reach £4bn in 2011-12.

A further four Premier League clubs sit just outside the top 20 places (Everton, Aston Villa, Fulham and Sunderland).

We're the 17th richest club in the world, but if Ashley's reign didn't exist, if we were the club we were even 10 years ago, we'd be turning over closer to what Liverpool are to what Everton are. Incredible show of decline in the club off the pitch in the fact that we only earn £3m more than Everton.

By the way HF a look around this Everton's commercial income doesn't beat ours......and yes this is today's one.

Commercial: Newcastle £24.9m, Everton £20.1m

Matchday: Newcastle £26.8m, Everton £18.7m

Broadcast: Newcastle £77.1m, Everton £86.8m

Total: Newcastle £128.8m, Utter Scruffs £125.6m
