Without doubt it's a flaw in who I am, but I'm weary of exceptionally posh cunts. One of my mates brought his pal out from his uni days, he turns up, I'm mortal and I was, other people well served too, and this posh cunt turns up with a fake smile talking about fiscal policies and didn't have one drink in two hours.

 

I've got the scene in Trainspotting in my head where the American tourist comes in the pub asking where the bathroom is.

It doesn't matter how much we fight and struggle we're gonna get nee where with these. I feel like going to church and praying for these to be removed somehow, because they're eroding every bit of ambition and sense of stature we've ever had every transfer window with every move. Imagine FFS pulling some of the stunts these have. Imagine him pulling the name down even, and he wouldn't have shifted Level 7. I honestly don't know what we can do

 

Heres a suggestion.

 

Why not use Twitter ala Barton and get all clubs / fans to sign the petition re safe standing at football grounds and get the 100,000 votes needed to get MP's to debate it.

 

Im sure there is already a fans body that looks at this and with all the footballers / football fans / journos etc on twitter, Im pretty sure thsi could get to 100,000 very quickly.

That's only one of a myriad of problems though, we had a perfectly modern solution in L7 even the council piped down.

 

Imagine Newcastle are Cheryl Cole in stature comparatively speaking, we probably were in 2003 in the CL, now imagine she changed her make up artist, he's always pissed, is a right knacker, stinks of piss and has shakey hands. This follows last year’s signing of an early day motion by 145 MPs calling for a reopening of the debate on safe standing.

 

And now with The Independent newspaper also backing Foster, the FSF, said spokesman Michael Brunskill, are “aiming to get large numbers of fans to contact their local MP and urge s/he to back the Bill. Plenty have told us they are in favour and we want to remind them that many fans want to legally stand at games.”

And lets face it, we all know what MP's are like. Enough media coverage and signatures and it will be taken even more seriously. 145 MP''s in support already isnt bad.

 

The bottom line is fans can either moan at each other on forums and twitter or they can use social media to really ramp this up to the people who have the power to do something about it.

 

Pretty sad state of affairs with Fans, footballers, media and MP's being so easily accessible if a coordinated effort (ala Barton) isnt started.

I'd be hugely surprised if it contains anything other than the club "worked around the clock" or "won't be held to ransom". Not a fucking chance will they hold their hands up and admit they either had no intent to sign a striker or they ballsed it up.

The most ridiculous thing about this window is that from a 'hearts and minds' perspective they had to replace Carroll as it wasnt just losing our striker, it was losing a local lad in the mould of great nufc heroes. So the whole window and everyone's perspective of the club turned on this fact. Everyone was aware of Nolan's limitations and Barton's baggage. I think everyone was pissed off about Enrique but it had dragged on for so long there was an inevitability. Therefore, to send the right message to the fans, it wasnt replacements for these 3 that needed to be sorted (arguably they all have to an extent) but Carroll.

 

If they had done and the results continued in roughly the same direction, am absolutely sure the attendances would be approaching 50,000 by the end of October and nearly full houses for the big games. Its hard to say now what these are going to look like but if they are down from these numbers then arguably it will be because the club failed to deliver the replacement. Now if attendances go up on average by 4000 paying an average of maybe around £30-35 a ticket. Thats an extra £140k a match which translates to about £2.6m a season, which i bet is more than the extra fucking amount they didnt want to pay to land their target.

 

I dont doubt Ashley's credentials as a businessman but if that is the case, its a serious lack of vision. I guess that no one in his empire has any experience of 'invest to grow' strategies.

I was hoping we would get a striker yesterday but as I posted I thought unless we shifted one then it wouldn't happen. I thought Ranger to Brum was a cert but maybe him twatting someone put paid to it.

 

Don't get me wrong I think its a disgrace we didn't get a striker in given the amount of time we have had let alone leaving it to the last day. I'm also glad we didn't go in for shite like Cole/Crouch in desperation. With Ben Arfa,BA and if Best carries on scoring then we will be safe but I was hoping for more this season. It's up to Pardew to get the best out of the team and ride our luck with injuries.

 

I think its pretty clear the people at the top know fuck all about how football deals work. Ashley is a whizz at flogging crap sportswear to chavs and Lamearse runs casinos, bit of a joke really

the bold bit is where you are wrong. Rightly or wrongly, this is the nature of football, which is not the same sort of "business" as a high street store like Boots for instance. I won't go further, but suffice to say, have another look at how successful the club was, relatively speaking in accordance to what supporters want and what gets them through the turnstiles and buying shirts etc, previous to Mike Ashley.

I agree it was on the field but the finances were fucked, I believe if Fred was still here things would have still gone to shit due to lack of funds. I will give you this tho, at least Fred wanted success where Ashley seems happy with just plodding along.

Agree with that opening sentiment Chez. Despite him not being local, the nearest comparison to us flogging Carroll is when Cole was sold. Keegan recognised that from the 'hearts and mind' perspective he couldn't sell him without replacing him and therefore pulled all the stops to sign Ferdinand.

 

Same could be said to an extent of McFaul when he signed Mirandinha to replace Beardsley too.

I don't think its the transfer fee per se, I just think if you go to a certain fee, you're not going to get the player on the wages we pay. They will expect more. Departing from the new wage structure is a much bigger issue than, on a a one off basis, finding £2 or 3 million extra for a specific transfer target. All newcomers will have been sold the new wage structure so you can't suddenly depart from it (or if you do you create an enormous shit storm) and all old players will have left because of it.

 

That doesn't mean they couldn't or shouldnt have brought anyone in though. There will still have been viable striker targets commensurate with the rates we paid for Santon (fee and wages). It's a massive fail whatever the budget context is.

I think you nailed it (yesterday iirc) like manky. I.e. even if we bid £15-20m the player won't sign because we won't pay the wages that are an inevitable consequence of that sort of transfer fee.
