Can we have a couple of rules/guidelines?

Recommended Posts

Not that I wish to be the damp squid but can we have a few basic rules or guidelines just to eliminate any confusion or "issues" later.

IT MUST BE YOUR OWN WORK!

Sorry I know that sounds stupid but it looks like our resident twat has already started posting random images, eg in the small subject thread - can we not just lock him out to start with?

RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK.

I'd rather not watermark anything I post but at the same time I'd be mighty pissed if something from our photography section ends up somewhere it shouldn't, with someone else taking credit. I'd suggest anything posted should be at a low resolution to be safe - that said if anyone is silly enough to want an image at a printable resolution I'm more than happy to provide it if asked and I have no doubt others will feel the same as it is good etiquette.

And I know this one is debatable but if something is photoshopped can you admit it?

TBH I'd like to see the original and hear how/why you got to the final image. I think it will add to the thread/topic.

Any thoughts?

Agree completely.

I dont want to watermark stuff and equally Id rather just post direct from Flickr for ease. When I post to Flickr I use the creative commons licence whereby anyone can use my image so long as I receive credit for it. You can I think add a locked topic stating the licence of all images found here in.

As I've said recently, from my point of view, I'm not just after seeing images so we can all say "oo thats nice", but also some explanation of how the results were achieved. I hope to learn some techniques from this as well and thats only by people being open about how something was achieved.

I've already stated my thoughts on Kevin.

Totally agree,

I could lock this forum and make it password protected but personally I dont think thats a good idea this should be an open thing for any member to take dip in and out of.

If someone can create a suitable licence post then I'll lock it, equally however we have the same issues when posting our work in the other thread. My own view on this is I post it on the net then I might as well give up ownership of it as if someone wants it then it will go regardless.

As for comments I want people to tell me my image is shite as much as I want the glory of a good picture, I want people to tell me that next time I should knock the ISO down or maybe look to change the lighting. On that subject it would be good to see the metadata (obviously Sammy cant do this with his outdated tat :D ) so everyone else can see what was used to create the image.

Id be happy to see all stuff detailed in the post ie a little write up of how you got the image, did you have to wait for hours to get the right light? use any specialist equipment and yes, carry out any work in Photoshop. As has been said before Im in this to learn therefore to see someone elses before and after images as well as an explanation would be very useful.

Can anyone start a challenge thread or has it got to be approved first?

Id say just start one. Im happy to have a few going on at once. Unless people want to get another out of the way first?

Have quickly put together some rules. Let me know what you think. Added in a standardisation of challenge topic names/subtitles, but not sure what you think of that! If you think it is worth keeping then would someone mind editing the names of the challenges we already have?

Just tell me if I've missed anything off.

Are we allowed to create some sort of mini portfolio for ourselves? Just a thread for each member who wishes to have one? I will go create an example now. Feel free to delete it if you just want one thread for people to dump their photos in.

As a non-participant I know I'd like to see a thread with purely football related photographs in.
