Tough choices...

Next summer I will work for three months abroad in a big law firm. I do try to get a job at a firm in Edinburgh, but I was relying on my qualifications but it is more difficult than I thought.

Anyway, I still have the option to go to Nottingham as a backup as there is a law firm for whose partner I worked here in Jormany. But on Friday this law firm offered me the chance to go to Barcelona as they have an office there. This was added with a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge..." basically meaning they wouldn't expect me to do real work over there.

Unfortunately my Spanish is really, really crap. Actually it is really, really, really crap. I only can follow the newspaper and that's more or less only the sports section (because I know the names of the players).

I'd like to work in England because actually I could see my future working at a university over there (teaching European and Jorman law). On the other side three months in Barcelona for doing nothing and just learning the language sounds too good to be true...

I really have to make my mind up...

3 months in Barcelona sounds class - and the best way to learn the language is to live in the country. Can you not do the 3 months there and then come to England after that?

The thing is I am a very shy person. And when not really having to work I probably will stick to museums etc. and not really going to talk to anyone. Those three months could bre realy boring then. In England I could easily get myself drunk and talk to anybody...

Yeah it did, but on the plus side it doesn't have Basque seperatists (fnar fnar)

I still go to Barcelona man, it's only 3 months, if you can muddle through in spanish you'll do fine, I'd wager that the majority of the people you'll be working with will have superb English and as such you'll be able to chat with them merrily and pick up the lingo pretty sharpish.

England isn't a place I'd want to come to if I had the choice tbh.

Is Edinburgh definitely out of the question then? Barcelona is a great place but personally, I prefer Edinburgh. Not too sure about Nottingham...

Edinburgh is still my prefered destination.

Obviously Nottingham can't match Barcelona. But I am unfortunately not (only) going there for a holiday. In that case there would be no choice... The thing is that I think Nottingham would still be the more sensible choice, but I can get those pictures of the hot senoritas at Las Ramblas out of my head...

I'm not dissing Nottingham by the way, I'm just saying that Barcelona is surely better than it, to both work and socialise.

I've been to both anyway and I liked Barca more.

Oh, I meant that Nottingham is a much more attractive option.

Guest Toplass-101

Ive a friend who has moved from Nottingham to Sunderland, so that just goes to show how bad Nottingham is.

Dont think Edinburgh is much different from here, apart from they talk funny up there.

Ive only been to Barca once, and with the exception of the football and the rain it was a class place, (footy was only bad as we were playing).

Id go to Barcelona if I were you, its really lovely, and they talk better English there then in Edinburgh.

I'd actually say Edinburgh is the best city in Britain, but it's hard to beat Barcelona. Wonderful place.

Fuck off the lot of you!

Nottingham has a few problems, but so does any major city - London, Leeds, Manchester etc etc etc.

Tabloid sensationalist views aside, Nottingham is a great place to live.

I've been to Nottingham and I have to say it was shit like.

A town full of Southern homs trying to compensate for their softness by battering fuck out of one another on nights out. F.A.C.T.

Do you want to take this outside?

I may be a touch biased, but I've greatly enjoyed living in Nottingham and still look forward to going home, and not just for sentimental reasons. I prefer the nightlife for a start - Leeds is good for a laugh, but it's just full of generic clubs that you get everywhere else.
