So you are in agreement with everybody else on this forum that ameobi is shite? And we are talking about ameobi not any other players.

no - i don't think he's shite. i think he's inconsistent and he looks poor alongside shearer.

He was shite playing as the sole striker the other week as well.

But anyway...so you don't think he's shite. Why not enlighten me as there must be something I'm missing here. Some strengths in ameobi's game that have gone over my head that you are clearly seeing. Care to tell me what they are? Pace? Heading ability? Cannonball shot? Ability to take a deadly freekick?

Your wasting your time trying to get an answer Footsoldier, he doesn't know himself. Basically he's Ameobi's lost brother so he's defending him.

Thats the only reasonable explanation for this stupidity. ;)

Shola Ameobi is as much use as a man's tit - fact

while we're at it, why don't you enlighten me as to exactly what alan shearer's strengths are these days?

at least shola is mobile and can run at defenders. it's a sad that it's come to this, but shearer now seems unable of creating anything or converting any of the chances that come his way.

and yet i can't remember too many threads on this board devoted to bashing our skipper. for me shola has been the better player of the two this season yet comes in for more stick because he's an easy target.

Come on Dan, you can beat the boo boys. Fight them head on rather than sidetracking. Point out how Ameobi is our all time third top scorer in Europe. How he scored almost as many as Bellamy last season with less appearences. How he scored 2 against the mackems (though one got stolen from him).

And he's managed all that despite being shit. That takes talent man.

Try to understand, Dan. We aren't talking about Shearer as everybody is well aware he's winding down.

I'm asking you to tell me what you see in ameobi that makes him a premier league player. I don't want to know about Parker or Emre or Carr or Given or Babyaro or Shearer or any of the others....... I want to know about ameobi.

Come on...make some sense and answer the questions seeing as you feel a need to defend him and you say you can see someting in him that everybody else, quite frankly, cannot see. We've all seen him play, even you, presumably.

try to understand footsoldier. i'm talking about the merits of the two strikers at our disposal in owen's absence and the relative amount of stick each player gets on this message board.

i originally defended shola in this thread because i felt he was getting all the abuse for our poor perfomance at everton when shearer, who looked slow and ineffective, yet again went without criticism.

shola is far from the finished item - his touch with his back to goal can be poor and he can improve his heading and finishing, but i wouldn't say he's shite because that implies he's never put in a decent shift in a black and white shirt - which frankly just isn't true.

I disagree that Shola is inconsistant.  When was his last purple patch (And by "patch" I dont mean 1 game or 45 minutes)

62560[/snapback]

that question also applies to shearer tbh. that's what i don't get. shearer keeps his place no matter how crap he plays and doesn't get anything like the stick shola gets just because of who he is.

when was the last time shola had a run in the team alongside anyone else but shearer? shearer has looked equally crap whenever they've played together.

I agree Shearer is now uselss as well, but we're talking about Shola. There's a reason you can't justify him being on our books without changing the subject to other players.

Maybe Shearer gets less shit because he was good in the past, and he's not going to be with us in the future. Shola wasn't and is. What would be the point in, for instance, saying "That Shearers shite, we should get rid at the end of the season"?

Anyway, it's accepted by just about everyone that Shearer is past it, like you said, look at the other board. I don't see anyone defending Shearer as much as you're defending Shola.

i don't know why i'm bothering tbh - i don't particularly rate him. i just don't think he's as bad as others make out and it gets on my tits the way some players get all the stick when others seem immune from criticism no matter how shite they play.

that said, it looks like not even shearer is above it these days.

I've come this close to having a go at Shearer in recent home games. The reason I haven't is because I don't particularly want to cause the inevitable slanging match and the other is because I respect and admire the bloke. The reason I feel like doing it is though because Shola gets unbelievable stick at the slightest mistake he makes. Now, I know he probably isn't good enough or is ever going to be but the same applies to Shearer nowadays yet when he makes an error, no one says a word. I never advocate having a go at players and I wish people would get off Shola's back a bit. I understand that some people will always verbally abuse their own players but I wish those people would at least be a little more even-handed in their criticism.

I think people are more forgiving of Shearer because he is a great player in decline, he's been a world class player and has been a great servant of the club for nearly 10 years, Shola however has just been a consistant flop and disapointment, he's had his chance to show his worth and has failed miserably, I don't think you can offer the same critisism to Shearer although recently he's been no better.

I know that's why people are more accommodating to Shearer, I just feel like Shola gets unfair stick. In any case you can't afford to be sentimental (from the point of view of the club I mean, rather than as a fan). It should be all about whether you can do the business now rather than about what you've done in the past.

I totally agree, I just feel Shola has had more than his fair chance to prove himself, he's clearly not good enough.

Fair enough Jimbo, I agree. To explain, I just mean Shola could be playing quite well - rare I know - (e.g. against the Mackems) and he'll still get stick for a little error whereas Shearer could be having a mare and not getting any stick at all. That's a bit off in my view.
