Whenever I used to stay at my nana's you'd hear the fog horn regular from down Tynemouth 8 mile away, never really heard it after the 80's.

I remember hearing the fog horn actually. She lived near the Lightfoot (easy to forget how close it is to the river). Rough as owt where she lived but it never bothered my playing out there as a kid.

I don't think it's changed actually, I still hear it regularly. Once you think about it you're fucked - sleep is impossible.

I loved it down Walker to be honest round Roman Avenue, made loads of friends when I was small, never ever in any danger. My uncle reckons his street is full of Africans now though, but in his words (not being racist his words) "they're aaalreet for darkies".

One thing I used to love about Walker was the ice cream man used to do strawberry ice cream off the pump.

End of the Cold War seems like a lifetime ago now.

'Frankie says relax' and the Two Tribes video. 'Threads'. 'When the wind blows'. Literally being scared to shit about being nuked every day.

Good times.

I was actually scared about a nuclear holocaust. I had a vivid dream about it once. I love Raymond Briggs btw. His darker stuff's the best.

Iain Banks' latest book is quite deliberately set between 'fall of the wall and the fall of the towers', he claims the former heralded in a false dawn of hope that the latter smashed.

Good one Renton, 'Frankie says' t-shirts too.

Pony NFL trainers

Forgot about them. The NFL in general became a phenomenom (much like Bullseye) just by being on a Sunday afternoon when there was fuck all else on (Songs of Praise etc.)

My mam was always getting chased by the "Provie".

Remember being made to hide and be quiet when they knocked on the door.

Kids never seem to have mix ups these days. In fact I haven't seen "black bullets" since the 80's.

You can still get them. 'Jesmona' still make them. The paper shop near me sells the tins.

80's porn and the radge music which used to accompany it pmsl

Chawaka-wow!

Ugly men and women on television. No way would Juliet Bravo be produced now with her. No way would Duncan Wood or Paul Frost get jobs on telly, let alone Mike Neville.
