Plus wouldn't it be near impossible for us to sign him as an emergency loan given that we have a decent backup and one other reserve keeper?

Think that's a valid point you've made - plus where does it leave City? If Hart got injured they'd want to replace him with the best they have available and that undeniably is Given. They'd be more likely to loan us one of their kids rather than repeat the mess they got themselves into when Given was injured towards the back end of last season and they were unable to recall Hart from Birmingham.

As it stands i don't know whether we'd qualify for emergency keepr or not. Krul could still be deemed a young inexperienced keeper based on his handful of appearances so we could argue we have no frontline keeper at the moment.

But i think it most likely Hughton will back Krul as no.1 whether he can get somebody or not and in the worst case scenario that Krul got injured or suspended we'd definitely qualify for an emergency loan and could bring one in quickly then, it can't take long to sort out a short term deal for a keeper.

It would be a massive kick in the stones for Krul if we tried to get someone in infront of him, he'd be off like a shot and couldn't be blamed for doing so.

Absolutely. And hindsight is a wonderful thing but we should have been allowing Krul more appearances when we were running away with the Championship IMO.

Rubbish article, picking up on the convenient timings. I don't think anyone here would want Given back, not because everyone is bitter, but more so because Krul is a long term prospect that we want to do right by, and Given would be a stop gap at best. Harper is on the decline it seems, so if we look at the positive side of this it will be good to see Krul get a consistent run in the side - something many of us have been calling for for some time. Lets not forget this kid has kept in Europe for us - had that blinder against Palermo in 2006 in which we managed to win 1-0 away thanks to of all things an Albert Luque goal from an inch perfect left footed Milner cross.

About time that he was given a solid run in the side considering that he has never disappointed when called upon in a pinch.

Don't want Given back. Newcastle seems to be finally moving forward again, and the future looks hopeful. Time to let go of those in the past and look towards those for the future. Time for Krul to step up and show us he's ready.

Didn't Spurs sign a pretty decent keeper this summer despite already having Gomes and Cudicini. One of them won't even be getting on the bench so being our number 2 for a while would be a step up for a while?

Soderberg has been a bit of a crock hasn't he?

it won’t happen. Given had a massive fallout with the club before he went to Man City.

No way will they help him with his latest bench warming tantrum.

There are a number of issues here

Given was badly treated by the club and should have been shown more respect.

When he went to Man City it was on a 3 year contract. Its dificult for goalkeepers as there can only be one so not much room for manouvere just look at how long Harper played second fiddle to Given.

When he pushed out Joe Hart at Man City did it bother him, though in hindsight it probably did Hart a favour as it gave him the chance to shine at Birmingham City.

Having said that he went to Man City on the understanding he would be number 1 keeper.

The big issue here is that in aquiring Given along with thier other signings Man City were NOT bringing in a player because he was needed they are going round the clubs elliminating any player they see as a threat to winning the Premier league or other title. In many cases these players are then just chucked onto the bench with no hope of playing which is exactly where Given now is.

To be chucked onto the scrapheap at 34 for a keeper is not on so you cannot blame him for wanting to move.

As to the final question should he come back - Yes along with many others i dont think Harper is up to Premier league standard, though he would have to take his place and not expect to go straight back as Number 1 he could perhaps mix a few appearances with coaching.

Tim Krul is the futeure though and wil make an outstanding keeper in time.

none of your “issues” refer to the fact that Given fell out with NUFC, to the point of going on strike to get a move.

What’s going on at Man City is tough titties and it won’t change the impasse.

Think Krul's better than Harper basically so not really interested in Given at all.

I heard that Harper/Newcastle had one of the lowest amount of shots on goal, but Harper had conceded a high % of them. Can't find a link at the mo.
