Boardwalk Empire

Scorcese is doing a period gangster show for HBO.

The writer worked on The Sopranos and it's set in New Jersey.

Steve Buscemi's in it too....

The reviews are in....

The characters are unforgettable, and the history, of course, is more entertaining than fiction. The filming of Boardwalk Empire just may be more decadent than the decadence it's celebrating. It's not TV, and it's not really HBO. It's an event, not to be missed.

Watching HBO's new Boardwalk Empire is like sitting in your favorite tavern and hearing someone say, "Drinks are on the house." Friends, it doesn't get much better.

In so many ways, it's as good as television gets.

Expectations were certainly sky-high for Boardwalk, but the producers have risen to meet them--in a series that grows richer, deeper and more absorbing with each of the six episodes previewed.

Temper your expectations though....

It's a big production-the first episode alone cost nearly twenty million dollars-and it looks authentic in a way that, paradoxically, seems lifeless. You're constantly aware that you're watching a period piece, albeit one with some vivid scenes and interesting details.

The action is set to move to gangster playgrounds like New York and Chicago, and introduce some dangerous romantic entanglements. If Boardwalk Empire doesn't begin in the most thought-provoking manner, its multiple, ready-to-expand stories suggest many avenues to explore.

I have the second episode on DVR- haven't seen it yet. First one was good though. Tons of setup, obviously so it's kind of slow, but I imagine once this series gets rolling its going to be really good stuff.

Just caught up with this and it's brilliant... Started off a little slow but that's understandable but it's picking up nicely, can't wait for tonights.

Got this, Dexter, Inbetweeners and Family guy to watch tomorrow!

If this article about Boardwalk Empire in The Independent is to be believed, it appears Sky aren't planning to show HBO's new period gangster series until 2011. My guess is they're going to try and boost subsciptions to Sky Movies by premiering Boardwalk Empire on Sky Premiere, rather than Sky1, as they did The Pacific earlier this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Boardwalk likewise debuts on the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, too. But while that's all speculation on my part, it seems likely British fans will be waiting months for Sky to air this highly-anticipated HBO series. If this is indicative of Sky's exclusive HBO deal, it's a disappointing first step. I certainly won't be waiting
