I would say Stoke are better yeh.

Embarrasing, what day do you go back to school?

Finishing above you and taking 4 points off you makes them worse?

;)

EDIT: 2 seasons running btw, taking 3 points in 08/09...

So by that logic we are far superior to yourselves then?

No-one said Stoke were "far superior" to you.

But yeah, Sunderland are doing better than Newcastle the last couple of years. You should be much farther ahead comparing what the clubs have spent like.

How? The last time we were in the same league (our worst performance in 17 years) you finished one point above us. This season you are one point above us, and there's every chance you won't even be able to say that in 53 hours time.

Sunderland and Stoke City are fairly similar in ability but play different football. This year Sunderland have gone forward and Stoke have gone the other way.

I would say we are better than them now but not last season.

I'd say you were fairly comparable tbh.

Aye both boring as fuck and will never come in the top 8. I'll have a £200 bet with any mackem that Newcastle will be in the top 8 before Sunderland are.

I'd say we're on an equal footing with both them Stevie perhaps slightly below the pair of them which is why I reckon the pressure's on the Mackems this weekend. They have the bigger reputation to live up to.

Yep agreed. Newcastle go into the games as underdogs really considering you have just been promoted. But thats not a good thing for us.

Man for Man a better starting 11?

Mingolet is maybe as good as Krul.

Enrique wouldn't look out of place in any side of the Premier league

Simpson is an average RB probably not as good as Onuoha

Coloccini is much better than Bramble.

Williamson is another average Centre half but comparable with Turner

Jonas - He'll win us so many free kicks you'll tear your hair out. Brilliant at times, but he's inconsistent.

Barton - Malbranque. Barton isn't going to shy out of any tackle, he's not going to stop running and he's not going to go missing. Malbranque is not consistent.

Tiote Much, much better than Clattermole. I'll tell you why, he wins the ball, keeps the ball, uses the ball. At no point during this does he get sent off.

Nolan Reliable goal scorer, not particularly mobile, but he knows when and where to pop up with important goals, useful in the air. I'd have him ahead of the inexperienced Henderson, regardless of the latter's promise

Carrol - Bent. Andy doesn't need penalties to score as many goals as your fella. It's a tough one this, I think Bent is a better striker at the minute, but I think Carrol will be harder to deal with. I'd reckon this one's a draw.

Ameobi - Will score. ;)

All in all 11 v 11 I'd say we do edge it. 5-5-1

However, You're away draw specialists, so I'd reckon it'll end even.

Ameobi

Anyone agree a draw will be a decent result given our home form?

Given the fact they've won one away game in two and a quarter seasons (other than games against Hull) no. Chez that's not being bullish or brash it's stating facts, I'm not going to the game on Sunday in hope, but expectation.

You are being bullish but there is nothing wrong with that and if you read that post again you'll see me saying that based on the away from (which you have rightly pointed out) and the fact that they should be considered as equivalent to Fulham or Blackburn, that you are right to be bullish. Just because its the derby, doesnt change your normal assessment of the game. We've played better teams than them already this season.

Right no bullshit, lets have it. Let's have your level headed prediction for the outcome of the game on Sunday from all of you.

Head Newcastle 2 Sunderland 0

Heart Newcastle 2 Sunderland 0

Some piss-poor journalism from The Sun (as if you would expect anything else!)

"Hughton will keep faith with rookie keeper Tim Krul following his nightmare own goal against Arsenal on Wednesday night. Dutch stopper Krul, 22, had his worst 90 minutes since replacing the crocked Steve Harper last month, letting in four goals - scoring the first himself."

...as opposed to what? Playing the even more rookie Soderberg?? (do some fucking research in future Steve Brenner)

The only difference i can see overall are your draws home and away against Liverpool and Arsenal, we've played both Man U and City but we've played them away, you've played them at home.

For all they played well against Man Utd and had the better chances you would've thought it was like when we beat them 5-0 the way the mackems went on. They didn't create much, and couldn't break down 10 men Blackburn, there is nothing to fear, nothing at all. Apart from the hangover on Monday.

165 tickets left at £62-£67, last chance probably this morning if you want one. If you Irish boys can get a cheap flight over you won't regret it.

Lawro thinks...

Newcastle v Sunderland (KO 1330 GMT)

Newcastle v Sunderland

Sunderland's good start to the season continued with a win against Villa but victory in this derby fixture will probably carry more significance because it would give them bragging rights.

Newcastle are at home, though, and I fancy Chris Hughton's side to come away with three points.

While we are on the subject of Hughton, I cannot believe there has been speculation surrounding his job.

He got the side up from the Championship and turned them around. It is crazy to question his position.

Prediction: 1-0

;)
