This just smacks of nepotism. 5 and 1/2 years for a bloke who has been sacked from his last 3 jobs  and by a club who has had 8 managers in the last 5 and 1/2 years.

I had scaled back attending games since Keegan was sacked but I'm not going fullstop now. Fuck all those that say it makes me a bad fan, I know none of the players would hold it against me and the fact they are talking about striking just proves they would support more people doing the same imo.

Just when you thought the dark days had lifted from the club! Bye bye Barton, Carroll, Ben Arfa, Enrique etc.

I wouldn't blame anyone for not going.

I wouldn't but I don't understand people who have tickets who don't go. A serious effort from the fans to starve the club of extra income will drive home the message he's not wanted, but it has to be most of us. Hand on heart I'm not going back next year unless we're sold.

I think the problem is in this country people just won't do it in enough numbers to make a difference. I think the 'we have to support the team' argument is just as valid as the boycott one, but I believe now the only way to stop this crap happening again and again is to hit him in the pocket until he gets the message. Since I can only get to 4 or 5 home games a season, I realise my protest will make sod all difference, but I certainly will only be going to away games until he's gone.

Aye, I feel like I'm being cheated enough without missing games I've actually paid for

Understandably a tough couple of days for many reasons, but I think some of the reaction is a bit over the top once you stop to think things through.

I liked Chris Hughton because he was a nice guy, a decent guy, reminded me a bit of Sir Bob and was a breath of fresh and stability following the departure of Special K.

I cant say Chris Hughtons style of football is this or that or he was showing signs of being a great tactician or any other qualities you associate with great Managers.

Was he a good man manager or just a soft touch? Its well documented about the gang of four running the show.

Did he have a vision? A Plan? etc etc Again I dont know.

Yes Ashleys a cunt. Yes Chris could have had more to spend? Yes the pis poor squad didnt help our recent form?

But again when I think of Chris the words Dignified comes to mind and while that was a breath of fresh air, at the end of the day its probably not enough. As an optimist I would like to think he could have grown into the job and everything would have worked out, but usually nice guys come last.

A lot of stuff is coming out about the crap he had to put up with. Was it dignified just to accept it or should he have done what KK and most managers would have done. Was he a Yes Man.

If it was Martin Jol or Martin Oneil getting unveiled tomorrow, most wouldnt miss Chris too much. Unfortunately its looking like Pardew. While thats a big Anti climax, Im not sure its leaving us worse off than under Chris, and it might even leave us better off. (Time will tell).

But its certainly not something to boycott over or never go back, its just another chapter of many.

I was more livid about KK and more livid about the renaming of the ground.

I'll expect the usual contrary slavver but for the time being, Pardew will get my backing.

Wind up I don't care what no cunt says. No one can hold these views.

It appears no one can argue against them.

Not that it will take much effort but I will at dinner time.

You're not sure it will leave us any worse off than we were under Chris?? Hughton has been at the club nearly three years in various capacities, he knew all of the players very well, he knew their positions and capabilities very well, he was respected by the entire coaching and playing staff, and in time he was respected by the vast majority of toon fans. We lost 4 games in 46 in the Championship in a campaign where a majority were saying we'd be doing well if we reached the play offs, he played conservatively away from home which pissed some off, but ultimately we garnered more points away from home than any other team in English football.

This season people have been saying he's tactically naive, we've played really shit in three games, THREE. In our first season back up, we've played the Champions twice and haven't lost, beat the team with the second most points from Jan to May last year on their own ground (the blue dippers), we've beaten a side who have only lost 6 times ever at their stadium (Arsenal), we beat the mackems 5-1 our biggest win against them in 50 year, we beat Villa 6-0 our biggest win against them ever, we've won three in a row in London, yes we've dropped silly points, but if anything was seriously broken do you think we'd have even had one point from the games I've mentioned? The Arsenal game away was commitment wise and tactically easily the best NUFC performance on those fronts in the last five years.

Yet you are saying an appointment that was supposed to be "an experience Premiership manager", when it turns out to be Alan Pardew sacked from everywhere but READING, a manager who as I mentioned yesterday preferred Harewood to Tevez, HAYDEN Mullins to Mascherano, a man disliked by most of his ex players who is perceived as arrogant, who has achieved FUCK ALL in his career, you're entertaining the idea that nothing is broken? The players even if they grow to like him, will be all over the place mentally for a good few weeks, with our hardest run of games coming this month. You talk too much in your taxi that much is clear, so much so you're not clear in your view, you and many others search too hard for an alternative view when the truth is slapping you in the face.

The likes of Jaythesouthernmug, and other mugs as well, mouthy as fuck talking shit, it's no wonder good old posters are leaving and I'll not be long, mouthy cunts, the thing is right I don't claim to be hard, I'm not, but I never say anything on here I wouldn't to someones face, too many cunts on here at the minute.

Agree with everything that was said here.

As someone who lives too far from Newcastle to be considered by some a proper fan, and also being unfortunate in the fact that I am not a geordie in any way, I don't post too often but "lurk" as I enjoy reading the views of those who feel as strongly about this club as I do (and I am sure that many will believe that I don't/can't feel as strongly as that because of my "shortcomings").

I feel for all of you that live in and around Newcastle as you are the ones that spend the money on the season tickets and the days out for the games. Living in the area and looking up, seeing SJP and knowing that inside are Ashley, Llambias, and now Pardew would do nothing but keep me in a constant state of anger (until apathy sets in) at what is being done. It is a testament to what the fat bastard has done when many of you speak (and rightly so) of chucking your Season Tickets in after this season and staying away from the club.

I have no idea as to how I am going to cope with the possible next five and a half years that Pardew may be in charge of the team.

PS Thanks to Gemmill for making me laugh with some of your posts...

NUFC.com now has a piece on it.

The damned United

We don't know Alan Pardew personally and we can't pretend ever to have taken a great interest in his managerial career to date - mediocre in the extreme though it looks, and punctuated by rumour and gossip.

By agreeing to become the new Manager of Newcastle United though, he's now tainted and viewed with the utmost suspicion by tens of thousands of supporters.

On the face of things that's a fairly shoddy state of affairs, giving further fuel to those who accuse fans of this club as being insular, misguided, in-bred idiots.

Pardew though has willingly allied himself to the most inept, improper set of clowns ever to mismanage a football club, arriving amid accusations of Cockney casino cronyism and desperate cries of "not Joe Kinnear" from media pals - slightly less than a ringing endorsement.

Were he to be a proven manager with an illustrious history, the bewilderment and annoyance of Hughton's departure would at least be replaced by a sliver of optimism - a 0.1% chance that something positive might come out of another self-created farce.

Instead though, Pardew now arrives here with nothing but a long contract. No benefit of the doubt, no honeymoon period, no support in the dressing room and not even any Geordie/adopted Geordie "remember me" credentials.

If Chris Hughton was rendered as dead man walking by the lack of support from his employers, then quite what shelf life Pardew will enjoy is open to question. That he doesn't appear to have much credibility to start with doesn't help: a chancer appointed by chancers.

And in making the change, Mike Ashley has once again demonstrated the utter contempt that he now holds for the fans that he once sought to buddy up with. At a stroke he's managed to successfully re-ignite the bad feeling on and off the field that resulted in our fall from grace two seasons ago. Is he trying to take us down?

The springboard effect that a new manager tends to bring to a club didn't happen here under Shearer and there seems to be even less chance of Pardew and his feel-bad factor pulling it off. If anything, his position seems like a watered-down version of Brian Clough's infamous move to Leeds (watered-down in that he doesn't have any medals to show his new charges).

Looking back at our history, there's a sense that Pardew arrives with a brief to impose dressing room order in the same way that messrs McGarry and Smith did, following the inclusive stewardship of Dickie Dinnis and Willie McFaul. This time however, the outward appearance is more of an iron fist in a glove puppet.

In the absence of information, the void is once again filled by a welter of opinions and theories. Rather than briefing pliant pressmen though, why doesn't Ashley have the balls to come out just once and explain himself; giving just a veneer of accountability to the emotional hostages that compose his public?

But please, don't send Del boy out to embarrass himself further with his half-baked nonsense. You'd have more credibility if you appointed Gazza as spokesman.

Start off by outlining exactly what "experience" Alan Pardew has that Hughton lacked: winning tin pot trophies, being sacked by clubs in each of the top three divisions, or appearing in the High Court? Or perhaps it was more the "experience" of moving in similar social circles...

And once you've tried to justify the appointment you've just made, move on to explain why his predecessor was jettisoned, after having somehow managed create an air of respectability around a club that had none. Hughton got Manager of the Month a few times here - the Nobel Peace Prize might have been a more fitting reward.

If senior players were allowed to do as they pleased at the club and Hughton couldn't control them, tell us.

If Hughton refused to sanction the sale of players or differed with the contract, tell us.

If the downturn in attendances and corporate business is being laid at Hughton's door, tell us.

Of course none of this will happen, despite whatever level of protests follow over the coming days and weeks - which will inevitably overshadow events on the field and supply a ready-made excuse for the dropping of points and the submitting of transfer requests.

The emotions invoked by the loss of Kevin Keegan soon disappeared though, along with noble intentions of boycotting pies, pints and pumps. Meanwhile, the lack of information regarding Shearer's post-relegation position manifested itself in a collective regional glumness rather than Barrack Road bonfires and barricades. Storms were ridden out.

The real damage though is being done by stealth. Fans who don't daub on bedsheets or voice their discontent on message boards or phone-ins, but vote with their feet, stop buying tickets, shirts for their bairns etc. as their own personal point of no return is reached.

And with next summer seeing the extended season ticket deals for a significant number of fans expire, the decision to boycott SJP has just been made easier.

The insular nature of the club and the way it runs its business was already having that negative effect - but this latest self-induced farce only hastens that process.

A new low - 40 days after the high of winning the derby. The suspicion is that we'll be in the wilderness for a damn sight longer than that though.

Some more views on this on ESPN including from our very own Shaka Hislop. Stewart Robson in particular has some strong words about it. Watch from about 11 minutes onwards:

ESPN

Shaka talking a lot of sense there.

And Janusz Michallik. He seems as bewildered as us fans.

Who is this nob talking now? Suggesting that if we beat Liverpool then we will just forget everything and carry on as if nothing happened. Oh, and he just compared Kinnear and Hughton as being "mild". In no way at all is Kinnear 'mild'..

Taking bets on 'I Want you to Want Me' being the first song either before or after the presser.
