This storey doesn't add up on every level. Ashley doesn't sell anyone cheap. He buys cheap.

Also, Ashley was at the Liverpool game, so wont care about his 60k wages.

fwiw, 60k a week is peanuts, we can easily afford 15 players on this salary.

*cough* Shay Given *cough*

Did we get 8m?

Not bad for a keeper that doesn't come out for crosses, can't kick or throw the ball well...

Rip off Britain... in debt, thanks "New" Labour...

15 players on 60k a week would give us a wage bill of 46.8m, which seems fine to me. Feel free to misquote me on it in another thread. :nah:

Closer to 6 million in actuality from the most filthy rich club in history for what would then have been their no.1 keeper in his prime, who by most peoples standards was one of the best shot stoppers in the world. Aye, good deal that.

When you think Craig Gordon had not long gone for what, £10M? to Sunderland? So what price would you expect Man city to pay for one of the most consistent shot stoppers? Mental deal that was. Even Given came out and said they didnt put up a fight to keep him.

As for Barton, not sure if he's on about the same thing, but Simpson said on twitter "don't believe everything you read in the papers".

Man City only pay over the odds for players they actually want. He wasn't on their radar until his agent touted him out. The club that initiates the transfer always comes off worse.

Some people have a very short memory on how many of our former cr*p players forced a move. 80k a week for an overrated stroppy leprechaun and we have people saying Barton is over paid!

Interesting little snippet at the end of the Daily Hate article above

Mike Ashley's astonishing reign at Newcastle United certainly has more than enough material for a Panorama documentary — especially when you consider Terry Venables’ battles with Alan Sugar at Tottenham were deemed worthy of two Panorama specials. And it’s claimed that Beeb investigators have been asking Newcastle watchers about all aspects of the Ashley regime and whether they’re prepared to be interviewed. But a Panorama spokesman said yesterday there are no plans for a programme on Ashley.

You guys realise Sky Sports football pages used to be known as Planet Football, right?

Watch what this link redirects you to...

www.planetfootball.com

Planet Football was known for always playing host to rumours and skysports.com follow in this tradition.

As far as I know SSN and skysports.com use different journos and sources, that's why a lot of these rumours don't get a mention on SSN.

Really don't put much trust in what skysports.com have to say to be honest. Teamtalk, Goal, even F365... they're all not adverse to the odd rumour if it gets them extra hits.

Madness though not totally unexpected. They've been trying to get him away for ages and his barely hidden contempt for the two of them will speed it up. Cunts.

You're onto something there imo, about him not being afraid to speak his mind.

The king is dead long live the king. Maybe a little too late?

Can't see him being sold, Pardew has already come out saying he wants to keep him.

Nothing here is impossible, but there's not even any financial sense in trying to sell him to reduce wages because we don't really have anything to replace him with, and bringing someone in of that level would cost much more than the rumoured amount that Barton will go for, which will effectively negate the lower wages.

They should just get Keegan, interview him for 90 minutes, blur his face and distort his voice and just screen that.

Would get all the dirt they would need.

The BBC did an Inside Out special on Ashley's business practices donkeys ago. that's why they were sniffing around.

NEWCASTLE United have absolutely no interest in trying to sell Joey Barton in the January transfer window despite wild reports yesterday he will be available for just £1.5m.

Barton only has 18 months left on his contract and is yet to open talks with the club about extending a deal which already earns the midfielder a basic wage well in excess of £50,000 a week.

Given the new parsimonious financial climate at St James’ Park, Barton’s wage demands are likely to be a significant stumbling block in future negotiations and this story may well have been an attempt by the player’s advisors to exert early pressure on the club.

By drumming up artificial interest in the player from rival top-flight clubs with claims he can be sold in January in a cut-price deal, Barton’s advisors will hope they have a powerful bargaining chip when they meet managing director Derek Llambias in the New Year.

Club sources were quick to rubbish the story yesterday following a report on Sky Sports News that he was set to leave and there was also an assurance that the former Manchester City star – who has been a key figure this season – is not for sale at any price next month.

These tactics are unlikely to make much of an impact given the stance the Newcastle board have taken over Steven Taylor’s contract demands.

An improved offer was made to the centre-back earlier this month, but the talks have broken down for a second time and it seems increasingly likely the homegrown defender will leave on a free transfer in the summer or for a reduced fee in January.

Sounds like Mckay wants Barton to move....it'll have been him planting that story on sky yesterday. Bartons probably cool with the situation too. I'd like to know who'd pay a 29 year old injury and suspension prone nutter 60k a week....apart from us like :nah:
