One of the lads at work is an Arsenal fan and went there recently for the league game. He was due to go back a week later for the cup but pulled out of it because he said it's such a shithole, he'd rather watch it on the telly.

 

Reckoned they're a friendly bunch, told him that's because they're don't get human contact much.

 

Couple of my mates went up too, said there were gangs of mackems 'hunting around' after the game looking for Arsenal fans

 

Said they have never seen anything like it. As is so typical they stayed in Newcastle, got to Sunderland at the last minute and headed back to Newcastle as soon as the game finished, they got a taxi because they didn't want to wait for the metro

Completely forgot about this thread. Absolutely amazing scenes.

 

I'm currently doing at MA at Sunderland's illustrious university and the two exchange students all but refuse to go on nights out in the town, citing the fact it's shite and rough as fuck, but they both absolutely adore Newcastle. No joke, they think it's bloody marvellous. Their Facebook pages are a litany of photos of various parts of the city, along with The Sage and The Baltic.

 

It's not just us, everyone thinks Sunderland is a fucking dive.
