Newcastle manager director Derek Llambias has hit back at Alan Shearer over his criticism of Andy Carroll's sale to Liverpool, claiming he does not care what the club's record goalscorer and former manager has to say.

 

Former star striker Shearer found the £35m departure of star striker Carroll on Monday "staggering" given they had brought nobody in to replace the 22-year-old, and after reassurances he would not be sold.

 

But Llambias said in The Sun: "Do I care what Alan Shearer has to say?

 

"When he ran this football club [in 2009] we were relegated after picking up just five points from his eight games in charge."

 

Shearer called for the money received for Carroll - a British record transfer fee that was quickly broken when the Merseysiders sold Fernando Torres to Chelsea for a fee believed to be around £50million - to be reinvested in players in the summer.

 

But Llambias insisted: "[Owner] Mike Ashley has only ever put money into this football club. He has never taken a single penny out.

I thought they had bonded together over the blackjack table at a London casino.

 

I thought they had gazed happily into each other's eyes as Ashley blew a mountain of cash on craps.

 

I thought that Pardew being mates with Ashley and casino boss Derek Llambias helped him get the Newcastle United job.

 

But mates don't make mates look like bloody idiots and, let's face it, this morning Pardew looks like a bloody idiot.

 

Yes, Newcastle got £35m for Andy Carroll, a stunning price for a lad who has only played a smattering of games in the Premier League.

 

And murky waters have been muddied further by Pardew's suggestions that Carroll got greedy.

 

Pardew said that when Liverpool's second offer came in, Carroll demanded a move if Newcastle did not increase his wages immediately.

 

Carroll denies that version of events anyway but even if he had stayed silent, it would not change one salient fact.

 

From the first day Pardew walked into St James' Park less than two months ago, he staked his credibility on the promise that Carroll would not be sold.

 

It was his way of asserting his independence, his way of saying he had not been brought in just to be Ashley's go-to poodle.

I dont know how we were losing that much when the wage bill dropped by as much as the fall off in TV money in the championship. I know we lost out on other revenues but not to the tune of £20m.

 

I'm no Gemmill but when i looked at the finances the last time, i thought we would have had bit of cash to spend this year. Maybe thats where the £5m for Ben Arfa came in though.

 

However, the Carroll money should mean a revenue of over £100m this year. Lets keep that figure top of mind.

Newcastle manager director Derek Llambias has hit back at Alan Shearer over his criticism of Andy Carroll's sale to Liverpool, claiming he does not care what the club's record goalscorer and former manager has to say.

 

Former star striker Shearer found the £35m departure of star striker Carroll on Monday "staggering" given they had brought nobody in to replace the 22-year-old, and after reassurances he would not be sold.

 

But Llambias said in The Sun: "Do I care what Alan Shearer has to say?

 

"When he ran this football club [in 2009] we were relegated after picking up just five points from his eight games in charge."

 

Shearer called for the money received for Carroll - a British record transfer fee that was quickly broken when the Merseysiders sold Fernando Torres to Chelsea for a fee believed to be around £50million - to be reinvested in players in the summer.

 

But Llambias insisted: "[Owner] Mike Ashley has only ever put money into this football club. He has never taken a single penny out.

 

"And he won't take a single penny of this £35m either - all the money will go to the club and we are already working on identifying transfer targets for the summer."

I dont know how we were losing that much when the wage bill dropped by as much as the fall off in TV money in the championship. I know we lost out on other revenues but not to the tune of £20m.

 

I'm no Gemmill but when i looked at the finances the last time, i thought we would have had bit of cash to spend this year. Maybe thats where the £5m for Ben Arfa came in though.

 

However, the Carroll money should mean a revenue of over £100m this year. Lets keep that figure top of mind.

 

The last published accounts were for the relegation season, so we don't yet know how we did in the Championship. Not to mention that the published accounts include a hefty amortisation charge.
