Shola has a fractured cheekbone which means he will miss 5-6 weeks of football. At the same time Carroll won't be back for the same amount of time. Sorry to say people however with is resting on our laurels and not getting a striker we really have shot ourselves in the foot.

Why the hell didnt pardew try and sign a striker earlier. Even before the departure of Carroll, it wasnt as if we were blessed with talent up front. We need Ben Arfa back and we need it to happen quickly. The day before we sold Carroll i had a dream that we sold him to Liverpool and bought Samba from Blackburn and played him up front (mad i know). He's a beast when it comes to getting his head on the ball. Anyway, now that sholas injured, we need to change the formation to 4-5-1. There is no way we can afford to carry two useless players upfront. So 4-5-1 is the way to go with Nolan up front and ben arfa (when he returns) introduced into the middle behind him, possibly. Or lovenkrands up front and Nolan behind him. God im so depressed. Why didnt we sign martins back on loan or anyone for that matter who has scored more than 5 goals a season. Our scouting team at Newcastle need fucking castrating. Argh!!!!!!

Chronicle tomorrow:

SHOLA: I'LL PLAY THROUGH THE PAIN

TOON ACE VOWS TO SOLDIER ON

And all the rest of it.

And this time I actually hope that is his crack. We've played him with injuries in the past. Stick a fucking crash helmet on him if needs be.

Thought about this the other day but didn't post it.

We all said we needed more strike options before the window even opened.

We brought in no-one and got rid of 2 more strikers.

Incredible!

Maybe efficiencies needed to be made. You wonder whether they're working on a quota system - "We're up to our quota of 4 strikers, Alan, so you'll need to ship out 2. Don't worry about Andy, we've already sorted him out."

What make this even more ridiculous is that Pardew himself thought the same thing. Then we had the West Ham 5-0 and suddenly Pardew is making noises about how "Nile, Peter, Shola and Besty" might have changed his mind about us needing another striker.

To further reinforce this - and I've said this so much that I don't want to sound like a broken record - a second goal at the SOL and against Spurs would have almost certainly netted us all 3 points in both games. Games I might add that a midfielder and a defender respectively scored in, not a striker. Best is suddenly adequate because he put 3 past a woeful West Ham defence. Ranger is far too raw to be thrown in the deep end like this and Lovenkrands isn't an out and out striker.

You couldn't make this up. It was as clear as day that this transfer window was massively important for us, and we've somehow managed to come out of it even weaker. Just about every other club around has strengthened significantly. An injured, mentally troubled midfielder is all we have to show for it. Ireland's position is not even one we're struggling with, although if his presence keeps Guthrie out of the team then that can only be a good thing.
