And I know for a fact it he would have stayed if just a mediocre contract was put in front of him. He was on £5k pw in our relegation season and all he wanted was put up to £15k with the promise of renegotiating if were promoted. Another player where the £8m looked too good to turn down for a player who cost £500k? and wouldn't have took £300k in wages. I think Bassong needs games and not be in and out. £7.2m profit or a centre half who could have been the bedrock for a decade. Ashley only goes one way. On the whole I agree with UM's post though I got the feeling it was more of a case of him not relishing div2 rather than just wages. Blaming individual results on one player when the saggy faced cunt of a manager pointed out that they had shit loads of missed chances at Blackpool shows Danny up for the mug he is. I've always said that 8m for him was good business. He wasn't needed by us in the championship and a year there would not have increased his value. Had a horrible shirt tugging habit that puts Williamson's arm work to shame. Was horribly exposed by Emile Heskey, and cost us dearly when he was also sent off against Fulham resulting in him missing our final game against Villa.
