Really didn't like the noises he was making about utility players. We need proper cover and proper competition in the squad, not jack-of-all-trades-master-of-nones. He reckons we don't need two players for every position. Errr, surely anybody with half a brain would tell you that's exactly what we need, you hand puppet.

New dawn, new era, new rubbish spouted.

All these statements are designed to try and quieten any unsettling about purchases (or lack of them). Its easy to then buy some crock of shite under the guise of "utility player" and use that as the basis for not directly replacing Carroll etc.

Agreed. More bodies not less are needed. What if the super-utility player gets injured at the same time as two of the players he's meant to cover?

Pardew's really begun spouting tired old bilge in the last few weeks - trying to talk things up without actually achieving anything. I'm already sick of it.

its quality that counts. One Andy Carroll is better than numerous Peter Lovenkrands' or Shola Ameobis. Mediocrity isn't "good business" in this game.

Ryan Taylor can breathe a sigh of relief, safe in the knowledge that this makes him integral to the managers plans...

Let's just get rid of all our wide players, that way we won't lose any attacking ability or width when we inevitably suffer injuries and have to move centrally based utility players (code for slow, shit and inconsistent) out there to cover for them.

If the talk is already like this imagine at the end of the season we'll be getting the same we have for years - lots of irons in the fire, hope to bring in 3 or 4 players to strengthen the side, deteriorating down to the end of the window where we've very close with a couple of deals, but some of the others have fallen through ...and besides, that player who's been really crap for ages is suddenly a superstar in training so why pay money for a player when you have such an excellent prospect under your nose.

...and the talk of the 35m will be nowhere to be seen.

Then after the window closes with hopeless lack of serious movement we'll get some crud statement that tries to justify hope the 35m actually has been spent on something completely unrelated that would have needed to have been paid anyway.

I dont get all this bollox about AP.

I quite like him....aye he's no KK or SAF but i think he will do a job for us.

Tactical decisions today need to be good though.

He aint no Hughton either!!!

When he opens his mouth, you can see Derek's hand wiggling around at the back of his throat…

… is the problem

Don't let it escape notice that Pardew has won 1 game in 10. And this bloke was brought in to take us to the next level.

Aye, righto.

When put like that..... <_<

His record for us (not including the Liverpool game when he wasn't officially in charge) is:

Played: 13

Won: 3

Drawn: 5

Lost: 5

Goals For: 17

Goals Against: 19

Points: 14

Hughton's was:

Played: 16

Won: 5

Drawn: 4

Lost: 7

Goals For: 24

Goals Against: 25

Points: 19

Aye, righto.

Did they say that? They said saying they wanted a manager with more experience but I can’t recall them explaining why.

A combination of random factors saw the team gain momentum, confidence and unity last season. It was a complete fluke and a wasted opportunity. Ashley has done nothing to build on this fortuitous turn of events and now confidence is falling, unity eroding and momentum fizzling out. Buying a few utility players isn’t going to turn things around again.
