Inevitably they will be repeatedly impressed by players they see more often. For what its worth though (forgetting any Newcastle connection) Scott Parker has been superb this season. But did Ginola have to go from taking Newcastle to 2nd place to taking Tottenham to mid-table to finally get his Football Writers' Player of the Year Award? I think you're right that the journoes are strongly favouring players who ply their trade a stone's throw from their offices, and surely this demeans the whole award.
