Ashley, and his company, regard Newcastle fans and our feelings as a nuisance. And operate accordingly.

We've done it again Derek. I told you the Geordies are thick! St. James' Park by the way, get that fucked off in the morning.

I've never committed criminal damage in my life, well once when I was young and daft but no one ever found out, but I'm telling you now. The sign on the wall beside the stairs on Barrack Road, St James' Park, if they put Sports Direct Arena there I will go down and pull it down and I will.

Would be interesting to find out which SD-employed local lad who is in charge of the day-to-day logistics of this project. He should be fucking lynched, fucking Quisling/Judas/30 silver pieces. Shouldnt be too hard to find out who that little shit is, just show up with an inconspicuous Billy blue-eyed smile and ask a few of the construction workers who in charge of signs etc...

I can tell you exactly which company erected the exterior signs.

Local too, Tyne Valley based.

See, this is where they've been a bit canny- the exterior signs are too high to be defaced.

My guess is that the big sign earmarked for the Gallowgate will have the words " Arena" , "Direct" and " Sports" prominently placed.

Again, too high to be vandalised, impossible to miss.

Utter, utter cunts.

I could get to them, getting off the ground would have to be done sharpish like.

Problem is that entire ground is covered by CCTV.

You going to stand my bail ? ;)

Jeff Stelling take a bow:

Naming and shaming

Rebranding should not come at expense of heritage, says Jeff

Jeff Stelling Posted 10th November 2011 view comments

The hideous decision to rename Newcastle's ground has well and truly got my goat!

Although the caption on Soccer Saturday will refer to whatever the stadium's official name now is, I for one will do my utmost to call St James' Park just that.

Trust me; I've got history in this area! I remember when Wycombe's Adams Parkspacer.gif became the Causeway Stadium in 2003. I religiously refused to call the ground by its new name and we ended up in 'discussions' with the club for some time.

Ground down: Jeff wonders whether St James' Park will ever be usurped by a sponsor

I must admit that I felt a small triumph when the name eventually reverted to Adams Park.

Heritage

I'm not being deliberately difficult; I feel that it is wrong for owners to change the name of a stadium that is steeped in tradition and history - one that people can identify with - when they don't own that heritage.

It's a different matter when you are naming a new stadium, of course; in that instance the sponsors should be able to call the ground whatever they like.

People all over the world recognise St James' Park as Newcastle's home. To destroy that affinity is abject nonsense and I'm sure that every true Newcastle fan will abhor this name change.

Quotes of the week

I'm sure football people and anyone with an appreciation of history know exactly where I am coming from.

Tarred

Newcastle say the rebranding gives them the chance to show future investors what they could get for their money, which in itself could lead to the farcical situation where the stadium is renamed every couple of years.

But if I was a potential sponsor, I'd be wondering what I'll get back for my money and the answer I'm sure is 'not much'.

The newspapers are unlikely to refer to the ground as anything but St James' Park - and the same is probably true of most television and radio companies - and the new sponsors will be tarred with the same brush as the current owners are.

Will this really help them sell more products? There are much better ways to increase brand awareness.

A sponsor's name doesn't tend to stick unless they are right in there when the ground first opens although it's interesting to see how the Etihad Stadium is hanging around.

I much prefer Eastlands but the day that I hear the bulk of City fans calling their ground The Etihad and the bulk of Newcastle fans calling theirs whatever the new name is, I'll be happy to fall into line.

Benton? Bit posh for me mate ;)

I reckon it wouldn't be too hard to get to the exterior signs. The Gallowgate end would be easier than the Milburn ones.

And it would need to be done from the middle of a crowd, to give enough time to get out of reach.

But do-able.

Be interested to know what the OB could charge me with? So long as no damage was done, i.e. cover the signs with a banner as opposed to vandalise them, would a crime have been committed?

Any of the Legal boys able to advise?

The Newcastle board are now actively searching for new, lucrative backers — but they will have to temporarily ditch any branding next summer during the Olympics.

Football matches will take place in Newcastle. But a spokeswoman from The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: "We will continue to refer to the venue as St James' Park.

"The IOC branding has rules about having clean (non-sponsored) venues at Games time."

Newcastle, who are third in the Premier League this term after an unbeaten start, do not play at home again until December 3.

And Ashley will be clearly hoping the anger will subside by the time Chelsea arrive in the North East.

You might get done for criminal damage like, in as much as it would cost money to 'repair' the damage (remove the covering). Obviously if you did you'd defend yourself by saying it didn't amount to 'damage' (ie permanent physical damage) and argue it was just a civil matter-ie they should only be sueing you for the cost of removing the covers.

You'd probably get done for some sort of public order offence if you were caught in the act like.

I'm glad someone asked a legal question by the way cos I've just been fucking dumbstruck by this all day and haven't even been able to write a sentence for 24 hours.

You'd could also be done for trespass.

Problem for you fist is if you used your ST as your reason for being on the premises, then the club will fuck you.

If you go without your ST or ID, then it could be challenged that you have no business being on the club's property.
