Is he holding us to ransom though, or is he just looking to get market rate for the services that he provides? The big problem with Ashley is that he wants to run the football club on his terms, but the top players won't accept anyone's terms other than their own, and he has to learn that there are times when you need to lose the battle and just pay the bloke what he's worth. This is probably one of those times.

But it would just open the floodgates for every other player to start getting shitty about their own contract, starting with Colo.

He's a great player and in form but you can bet as soon as we gave him a 4 year contract on £90k a week his knee would go!

But then you have to accept that this club can only retain average players, if it wants to pay average wages. To be honest, I think we're both right. I think you're right that that's what should be done and I'm right that you have to accept your place in the game if that's gonna be the club's outlook. It's part of the reason I can't be fucked with football anymore - I don't buy papers but we have a paper stand in the shop at work and I always glance at all the back pages and a lot of the time, the big back page story is centred around some premiership footballers wage slip, and the fact that he doesn't think he's getting paid enough.

I know it's almost boring to talk about this stuff, but it's just so fucking distasteful to have that on the back page and you flip the thing over to read about more cuts in the NHS, or how more people are slipping into poverty. I'd love more people to walk away from football and for the bubble to burst for these utter cunts/"Premiership Stars".

I know...these players buy the same newspapers too, I don't know what must go on in their heads to keep wanting more. I can sort of see the logic when you know that you are generating money for somebody so you should take your share but IMO it always ends up taking focus away from the game itself and the thing they loved in the first place.

The optimist in me sees people learning to give back and realising that it can actually make you happier than constantly taking. Bill Gates and recently George Lucas gave away fortunes to good causes. How much does a person really need after all?

It may be naive but I just hope there are still some footballers out there who want to turn up to a job where everyone is on the same side. It seemed like we'd managed it last season.

Ba is an excellent striker but if you think about it, he agreed to be paid a certain amount for a period of time and now he's gone back on that agreement. What can the club do logically? They don't have the option to reduce players' contracts if they play badly so I can see it going against the grain to have to increase them if they play well.

I know that's how things have got but I think Ashley is right to not get into that game. It reminds me of the Owens and Dyers and the total lack of camaraderie when anyone scored.

In short, cunts. :D

Player agents, they're the ones behind the scenes making the phone calls and arranging the meetings all to get their cut. Demba Ba's is no doubt rubbing his hands together deciding where else on this planet he'd like to pick up a holiday home.

Sounds more and more like our stance is correct as I assume his agents are taking the piss with their requests. I mean if he cant reach a deal with a club like chelsea.

As Caulkin in saying in Twitter, the deal isnt as good as it seems. £7.5M + Agent Fees + £80Kpw + 4 year deal + dodgy medical.

I hope he finds a club that want to pay his wages....or he might stop playing for a move and decide his knee is giving him gyp.

I hope he realises that his "advisors" are self serving sycophants, puts the whole lot of them out on the street, renegotiates a contract with Newcastle and goes on to win Footballer of the year.

but I'll admit my hopes may be a tad unreasonable...

If he is to go, I hope he agrees a deal to Liverpool, scores a hattrick against Everton, breaks down in the warm down session after the game, signs the Liverpool contract, then Doctor reveals it's worse than they feared and is out for the rest of the season...

There's this release clause you might not have heard about ;)

Yes but surely the clause is only activated if a £7.5m bid is made? Unless there is another clause that lets his entourage speak to whoever they like....
