Coloccini

I think he more than likely fell out of "love" with the club just like a lot of us have. He was coming to the end of his career, on a massive wedge, played under shit managers, alongside shit CB partners and knowing that he wasn't going to win anything with the direction the club was going in under Ashley.

I dont think the club acting like cunts with Guttierez helped either

How unfortunate. To be honest I find it hard to conceal my contempt for him. The last 3 years of his time with us were one piss-take after another. We should've got shot of him far sooner than we did, but of course the ludicrous wedge he was on made that difficult. Of course, working with the defensive powerhouse that was Mike Williamson for so long hardly made him look good....

Always thought he would have been a better Defensive Midfielder than a CB.

On the basis he wouldn't have been?

Why the Hell would you think that a man who played his entire career in one position, in various leagues and at international level, would have been better in another?

Just a daft thing people say about CBs who can trap, control and pass a ball 10 yards.

I think during his time in the latter part of his career here he seemed to get caught up in the apathy alot of the fans had too. Having to partner Williamson or Taylor for the years which looked to have been his best and having Pardew as his manager wuth no real ambition to strive for added to his lack of dedication whoch shouldn't be an excuse when picking up 60k a week.

You think youngsters play their entire lives in one position? The ones that make it to the pros have been the best player at their clubs wherever they've been and have probably played all over the park at various times in their lives.

You may think it's daft but when his mind wasn't clouded with San Lorenzo, or wherever it was that his heart was, I actually saw him run forward with some authority near the end of games to try and get the tie or winning goals.  With his above average ball skills, above average passing, calm in tight spaces, along with already defensive mindset, - yes, imo, he might have been a better DM with training.  Especially the last three years with us.  Could have got a better CB and move him forward to DM.

No, I don't think youngsters play their entire careers in one position. I do think young players' attributes lend themselves to one area of the pitch and the best players specialise in that area, there are rare exceptions but mostly the 21yr old who makes his debut at left wing will usually stay there. I also think that experienced centrebacks who've played most if not their entire professional career in that position should probably stick to that position in their twilight years.

No problem with a certain type of striker moving back to attacking midfielder, then central mid, then deep lying playmaker as their movement and pace dwindle but their creativity, technique and vision can still be of use. I don't think that a centreback should move forward into a busy area which would have highlighted his weaknesses and ignored his strengths.

I've seen it said about Albert, Woodgate, Mbemba, and Coloccini. In fact any centre back that isn't in the John Terry mould. It is daft.

Except he didn't.

Will this be a subject of your next podcast?  I could call in and we can discuss it over a cup of tea.  Or cocktails perhaps?  What's your favorite cocktail? :blush2:

One of the lads keeps suggesting it for Mbemba and it bothers me.

Haven't had a proper cocktail in ages, probably Old Fashioned or a Tom Collins?

He had better mobility than Tiote or Colback.  And, imo, would have been better than Jack fucking Colback in all areas. :icon_lol:

eh? Tiote could turn around in a circle 3 times in the time it took Coloccini to find his arse with both hands.

   :nufc:

“Dear friends, colleagues, followers: the day to wake up has arrived, I was immersed in a dream for 22 years of my life that has given me much more than I imagined. It was all so wonderful that even the bad moments, hard in those times, were transformed into experience. This same one nourishes you, teaches you and the more you incorporate, it means that the biological clock without realizing it, advances, carrying the baggage of what has been travelled each year. I want to tell you that I fulfilled all my dreams as a football player, know that I was happy during this trip which I would have liked never to end. But unfortunately, it has an expiration date. Like everything.”

“That happiness would not have been possible without my colleagues, staff, coaching staff, each of the workers of the clubs with whom I had to share throughout my career, therefore, highlighting them as a fundamental part of my journey.”

“Thanks to the ten clubs where I played @aaajoficial, @bocajrsoficial, @acmilan, @sanlorenzo, @deportivoalaves, @atleticodemadrid, @villarrealcf, @rcdeportivo, @nufc and @aldosivi_oficial for giving me the opportunity to wear their prestigious shirts, trying to leave the maximum at all times, both inside and outside the field, with successes, with errors but always with honesty, loyalty and commitment both for the institution and for my colleagues. Thank you very much @afaseleccion for hosting me from the U-15 to older, giving me the satisfaction and the most beautiful feeling of being able to defend the flag of my country for the world.”

“I do not want to extend myself too much, again thanks to my colleagues, friends, family, followers for the unconditional support. To rest, recharge and prepare 100% for the new goals, challenges and illusions, responsible for my future dreams.”
