Not it won't be as big as it was. I would sacrifice it ten times over to relive their demise again.

But it will go down in history as the best derby ever to grace this island and it doesn't look like it will be beaten by any other in the foreseeable future.

"best derby"

what context are we using for this bold statement?

suffice to say that each individual derby is more important than any other to individual sets of supporters... and I've been to rangers v celtic and I've seen more passion in the stands at a Southampton v Pompey game tbh..

I think you're taking it far too personally and overthinking it. My point is that the standard in the SPL is currently piss poor. Celtic do fantastically well in the CL by over performing as, compared to the usual weekly dross, they are excited and motivated and evey game is a cup final. It's only natural. Celtic are a massive club. A massive club who fail to come anywhere near selling out SPL games. Why? Because the standard is shite. You're spot on with it being about money, the rest of the league(s) just can't compete anywhere near with the two Glasgow clubs for transfer fees and salaries.

As an aside, I would LOVE the PL bubble to burst and it no longer being about the money. Sadly though, it's a pipe dream.

Thank you! I knew there'd be a good voice of reason in here. :)

I played in a Benfield v Heaton Manor 'derby' after there'd been a lot of fighting between Byker and Walker in the late eighties after two Heaton kids died. We got on the mini coach to go to the 'away' game which was to be played at a mystery neutral ground which only the two managers knew about so no fans could be there. The mystery 'neutral' venue turned out to be their ground and their lot had been tipped off about it. Wasn't the most comfortable walk I've ever made from bus to changing rooms and vice versa.

Are the massive and important Celtic (now free from pesky bigotry) stuttering out of the Champions League?

Well, that's nothing, Stoke vs West Ham can be quite dull, so y'know... swings and roundabouts.

Champions League: Uefa charge Celtic over banners

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Celtic for an incident of "non-sporting nature" during the Champions League defeat by AC Milan.

Banners with a slogan depicted Scottish warrior William Wallace and Irish hunger striker Bobby Sands.

The case will be dealt with by the Uefa Control and Disciplinary meeting on 11 December.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell described the banners as "nothing more than clear disrespect for the club".

Celtic were previously fined by Uefa over a banner displayed during a Europa League tie against Udinese in 2011.

A penalty was imposed for supporters setting off fireworks during a Champions League qualifier this season.

Celtic have previously warned supporters in section 111 of the stadium, known to house the Green Brigade, over their future conduct or face being relocated.

The Green Brigade is a self-styled "ultras" group of fans known for banner displays and chanting and Celtic have made it "abundantly clear" that "only football-related displays would be permitted and that any political display would lead to a Uefa charge".

"There have now been a number of Uefa charges made against the club during the last three years, relating to behaviour, displays and pyrotechnics - it cannot go on any further," added Lawwell in a statement.

"Let's be very clear. Following the actions of a small minority, these charges are made against the club. It is the reputation of Celtic, our great club and our great fans which is damaged, while others carry on indulging in such behaviour.

"Our supporters do not want this any more. We are a non-political organisation, a top football club in fantastic shape, aiming to play its part as a major football club on the European stage.

"Regardless of the political views people hold, football stadia, whether it is Celtic Park or anywhere else, should not be used to promote these. This is something which all football authorities, including Uefa, have stressed for some time and something well known by all supporters.

"The club don't want it, our manager and our team don't want it, our supporters don't want it and the football authorities don't want it - it has to stop."

Well as a TV fan from afar I can say there's nothing even close to matching the interest generated by the English league at the moment. And the increased competitiveness will do that now harm

Over the last many years I've often stayed up to watch Europe's biggest derbies. Whether it be England, Spain, Italy or Germany. Each is interesting for different reasons. Can't ever remember being excited about celtic v rangers though. I might watch it if the alternate is golf or a cricket test match. But apart from that, nah, because it just doesn't have a bigger context as the league's completely shite.

Of course it will be different for the locals who'll see it as a massive game undoubtedly. The game isn't the biggest of anything though if it doesn't generate interest from outside.

You can't stand and clap in an English stadium without it being in the papers. The fans above are fans with a bit more character, furthermore the seats shown there were mostly accidental due to poor stewarding and overcrowding.

Not for the first time, your sentences make absolutely no sense at all.
