I'm in the Cleethorpes constituency actually! Had a Labour bint who's now been replaced with a Conservative wanker. On personal levels the two most partisan politicians ever. Probably most likely to be seen sucking off whips . Ouch with the trawlers joke, the towns still reeling from Labour selling the fishing industry downstream (cough cough shit joke), now the only tourism we get is the "Comforts" as we call the fat smelly Yorkies who come to the beach and let their kids run naked into the sea. I think its the selling of the nations soul wholesale to the services/financial sector started by Thatcher and continued by Blair/Brown that was the mistake. I also remember a programme years ago which even used Jersualem's line about "dark satanic mills" to suggest that the ruling classes have always looked down on industry and by extension science and innovation as ignoble pursuits. Or at least more than design and innovation actually needs to. The counterpoint to that is obviously how much corporation tax ends up getting paid to the government by design and innovation vs manufacturing companies, but largely I'd say your point is of concern to the private investor rather than governments looking to generate sustainable employment for their people. As you say though, from a governmental point of view its probably a question of a better mix/balance. Will give that a watch either way though, find all that shit fascinating.
