Danny Simpson

Danny Simpson has rejected Newcastle's latest contract offer, as the club try to tie him down to a long-term deal.

But the full-back will not be permitted to leave the club in January, despite interest from other Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers.

Simpson signed for Newcastle on-loan from Manchester United, before sealing a permanent deal in January 2010, and has two years left to run on his current contract.

The 24-year-old is thought to be unhappy with the personal terms of the deal, rather than its length.

Talks have now been postponed until the summer, leaving Simpson in a similar position to the one Joey Barton found himself in, while at the Magpies.

He rejected a contract and found himself transfer-listed at the end of the season, which the versatile defender might be worried about now.

Simpson has been troubled off the field this season, committing a speeding offence and seeing his child Skye prematurely-born.

Sad news, even though he could get replaced by someone even better I really don't see that player within Ashley price-range, and most certainly not English.... therefore he will be replaced by someone worse :(

Aye, playing week in week out in a top ten team would normally warrant at least 20k a week so it's sort of understandable. Like others said though, it won't be the end of the world if he leaves. Shouldn't prove to difficult to replace even within the Ashely budget.

Well we know from the court case he's on £10kpw. Peanuts for a player who has played every game for 3 years for a team currently sitting in a European spot. Don't blame the bloke tbh, most Championship clubs would offer him more.

This. Aye he's not the best but he's better than R.Taylor imo if Jonas played on the right Simpson would look fairly solid. I'd prefer us to just keep him and pay him a little more than risk getting something worse.

Not forget even if he's a wee bit shite compared to someone like Dani Alves and Sergio Ramos, he's still amongst the best English right-backs out there, and there are players below his level like Bardsley and Hibbert who probably earns more than him. Also I rather have Simpson than Raylor, and even Raylor gets more than him like.

Doubling his wages to £20k would cost an extra £520k pa, how much would it cost to replace him? £4 million?

So there will probably be no replacement bought to cover his position at all.

I welcome his exit for no other reason that we will actually get the chance to see someone else there who might blossom. Mind you it will probably be for the worse, but his averageness is starting to bore me.

Probably amongst the best english right backs [/Quote]

That says more about the sorry state of english right backs than it does about simpson tbf.

Ryan Taylor will be playing there if he leaves you realise. Just watch the first half of the Chelsea game again . . .

Exactly. Why are people banging on about signing a decent left back to replace Simpson when we already have the replacement in the squad. Must have been sleeping the past 4 years.

How many full-backs earn more than £10k per week in the Championship like?

True that'll he'll never be first choice RB for a bigger club.

However, we've no idea what terms have been offered to him, it could be that he has been offered an extension on the same wages, if so then he has a case for being pissed off.

Not that we'd miss him greatly if he went.
