Some games should be banned, just as some films should, the human centipede 2, banned for being nothing more than a gorefest with literally no story whatsoever, perfectly reasonable banning, however the idea that a game should be banned for depicting the effects of a bomb on the streets of a city (any city, london or otherwise) is moronic in the extreme. Andrew 4175 Posted November 4, 2011 Share Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) ok take mw3 with a controversial scene where a mother and little girl get blown away but a truck with a bomb in it how is that not close to 7/7 or 911 it is, no question about it, but that isn't what your post means. and it is also not a reason to ban a game just as it wouldn't be one to ban a Film or TV show. the idea of the scene in MW3 is not gratuitous bomb porn, in the run up to it you have found out about the trucks, you know what they look like and then you are stuck in the body of a man filming his daughter and wife on holiday, you see it coming, you know what it means but they dont and neither does your character at the time but you cant do anything about it, youre trapped, helpless thinking "oh god this is going to kill them" and all you can do is move the camera because of course, the character doesn't know what about to happen. youre a victim. That isn't the sort of thing that should lead to a game being banned, its over the top and designed to court controversy just like no russian was, publicity for nothing, but at its core it is an experience designed to evoke emotions in the player, you're supposed to come out of that scene, having witnessed the helplessness of the victim and the horrific nature of the villain and youre meant to hate the bastard for it, you want to kill him. thats the point. when you get to the end of the game and he's in your sights, just like at the end of MW and 2 you are supposed to wait...slow motion everything and you are supposed to revel in the final trigger pull that you get to take. its the end set pieces that MW games do better than anyone else Edited November 4, 2011 by Semimental Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
