Squad:

Injury update

Shola Ameobi: A hamstring injury picked up during the win over Wigan had been predicted to keep our number 23 out of contention for around six weeks. However, Shola was interviewed on TV before the Everton game and confirmed that he expected to be available for Man City.

Leon Best: Having received a belated callup to the Ireland squad for their two-legged Euro 2012 playoff against Estonia, the United forward is a major doubt with groin and toe injuries sustained during Saturday's defeat of Everton.

He'll travel to Dublin to undergo medical tests at the Malahide HQ of the Republic's senior squad. And there's an added complication in that Best is due to become a father imminently and keen to remain on Tyneside as a result.

Yohan Cabaye: Forced off before halftime against Everton with a groin strain, Yohan will link up with the French squad ahead of home friendlies against the USA and Belgium for assessment by their medical staff.

He later told French newspaperL'Equipe that "I felt slight pain in my left adductor muscle. I don't know how serious it is, but I will have a scan on Tuesday in Paris."

Sylvain Marveaux: Another groin problem cut short the United winger's maiden Premier League start on Saturday and like fellow countryman Cabaye, Alan Pardew's initial assessment was that he'd miss the Man City game.

Gabriel Obertan: Confirmed as having an infected toe after the Stoke victory, Obertan is expected to be out for up to four weeks. That would deprive him of a return to his former Old Trafford stamping ground and make the visit of Chelsea to Tyneside in early December more likely.

Cheik Tiote: The knee problem which sidelined him for the last two games Everton has prompted Tiote's withdrawal from the Ivory Coast squad for friendlies against South Africa and Senegal. He'll remain on Tyneside instead.

Mike Williamson: News is awaited of a comeback date for the defender, who limped out of our Carling Cup tie at Scunthorpe back in late August with an ankle injury.

Having seen a specialist in September when a protective boot was removed, Williamson had been predicted to return within six weeks. However that time has come and gone with no sighting of him or update as to his progress.

(First team fringe players Ryan Donaldson and Paul Dummett also remain unavailable due to injury).

This is where the worry sets in our squad is clearly still lacking in depth, tbh I wouldnt be rushing any of them back for the next 2 games as nobody expects anything from them anyway.

Agreed.

The Wilo comment is the most worrying for me because you just never know how serious the injury is or how long they will really be out/crocked.

Honestly we've not had too bad a run with injuries thus far. By comparison to our previous injury lists over the past decade it's pretty good.

Shola is a perma-crock who seems to never last more than a few games at a time.

Best is prone to the odd injury, hopefully that explains why he looked like he was running in mud on the weekend.

Marveaux has a history of muscle injuries, so there's no reason to expect that to change.

Cabaye and Tiote will pick up the odd injuries because of their combative natures.

Obertan, I'd say is the type who could miss a month because of a bee sting. Welcome him to prove me wrong.

Williamson's stand-off nature in defense will see him end up in the wrong position frequently, thus exposing him to potential injuries. Seems to be a slow healer.

Add to that bunch Steven Taylor who is injury prone, partly because of the way he flings himself about trying to block shots.

Thankfully our Argentine pair have a fantastic injury record. Simpson too avoids injury by only tackling as a last resort :( .

Ive been wondering if some of the players might 'burn out' before the end of the season due to sheer effort. Our physios and fitness and conditioning coaches will be very busy id imagine.

The injuries have come at a good time, if there is a good time, given we have the international break and matches we probably wouldn't get anything from anyway. Team Positive.

Aye

We knew it was going to happen one day. The Stoke & Everton games have proven costly. I didn't think we would get 6 points v them two so very happy, but disappointed with the injuries.

The next two games wont be as physical as the last two. Lets hope no more are added to the list.

everybody has injuries

they do, but some teams are hit much harder than others. for example, looking at Physio room at the min, Wigan have 1 injury there while we have 5. Also depends on how they are spread. If you had 5 centre halves injured that will hit you worse than if it was spread around.

Chin up. It's not long till January :D

This is true. December is full of games but get through that and into the window and we can start fo fix things (or at least we'd like to think that will happen). A new striker and defensive cover would satisfy me, although the more the merrier.
