Senior club management is probably panicking given their financial situation and pending relegation. They just want to be seen doing something. How much cost cutting would axing some admin staff achieve in the modern premier league club where a player sitting on the bench will be likely making more in a week than they will in a year? If it is just cost cutting as aimaad says, then it does seem all rather futile when you've got Jack Rodwell on £50k/week or whatever it is. One Jack Rodwell will be equivalent to what? 104 reasonably paid admin staff? Are they gonna lay off that many? Didn't Ashley swap out all our light bulbs for more economic ones? Streamlining workflows or improving economy across the board to make everything more efficient in the long term makes sense (including light bulbs I suppose ). And thats the category letting go of a few support staff at a football club should fall into. Remember reading somewhere that around 50% of club staff are part time anyway. You could get rid of all of them and the savings would pale in comparison to halving a single players wages over a year. You're right in that executives like fussing about staff costs, even if its a fraction of overall operational costs. What's incredible is that Bent, McClean and Mignolet are the only players in that list that they have made a profit on. Even then it wasn't a massive profit.
