A Football poem. Sold Out

I heard this being recited on 5live yesterday, the poet was called Dennis. Ive heard him on there a few times.

 

They came along with their paper faces, replaced real boots with designer laces.

took the peoples game from us, turned into a money circus,

built their boxes smart and neat,

lost the atmosphere and the man in the street.

Teaching children different ways, its the team that pays the highest wage

Forget that crest upon your chest, loyalitys beens laid to rest.

Capitalist,coporate, unless your're rich, the turnstile's shut.

Comaradarie of the working class, its now sky TV and a pint and a glass.

Foreign teams in the English league, one week, two games they've got fatigue.

Players used to play with guts, now they tout themselves like common sluts.

Fifa's gone and sold its soul to the money men with just one goal.

Its ugliness is a crying shame, our once beloved, most beautiful games

my grandad played pro football in the 1950s and was getting backhanders above the wage cap left right and centre off clubs asking him to play one off games etc.

 

Its no different now, just on a larger scale and with more media coverage highlighting it.

Wouldn't you agree that in the past the players and fans had a lot more affinity than they do now though? Even going back to the 70's lots of players got the same buses in to home games as the fans.

aye definately, actually when i was at leeds uni i couldnt believe it when the leeds tykes/rhinos were in the local pubs after their games. can you imagine wor keiron and al nipping into the strawberry for a couple? I know Its different these days and they would get mobed etc. but even if they were perfectly safe they wouldnt be seen dead running shoulder swith the fans.
