To finish 3rd behind the US and China is an absolutely stunning achievement , and every medallist , every athlete on the team, should be justifiably bursting with pride. Of course the medal haul is impressive, but even the athletes who missed out on medals. The Opening Ceremony, the armed forces helping out, the volunteers, even the fucking Olympic Lanes worked. Mo Farah, Ennis, Ainslie, Wiggins, Hoy, at the top of their disciplines, but others like Gemeli (sp?) the young boxers whose names escape me (Adams? Campbell?) who've got an exciting career ahead of them. Properly proud of them all. I'm not even a huge Olympics nut, but the good feeling around London is something else. It was dead nice walking along the South Bank last night, just mingling with people of all nations, all friendly. Obviously you get that in London in the summer anyway, and I'm sure it's annoying for anyone who's actually trying to get somewhere, but sod it - the place just feels that bit nicer right now.
