Given that he's up at the top end of the age bracket that we want I don't doubt we'd sell him if the right offer came in (I suspect around £10m) but it would be a massive mistake. Before he came how long were we crying out for a defensive midfielder and at his best, he's been easily as good as any I've seen here.

He would do a decent job for Arsenal but I think (hope) he's a bit limited with the ball for Wenger to go for him (and I don't doubt after being linked with Khedira and Bender, Arsenal fans wouldn't be too impressed with signing him).

He'd definitely be a massive miss for us as there's no way Anita, Colback or Abeid could do his job for us. I'd hoped when he first came, that Bigi would be the man to eventually fill the position but he's dropped right off the radar in the last 12 months.

Funnily enough a twitter account @@nufcfans insists Abeid is the answer, despite him being an attacking midfielder throughout his career.

Bigi's stumble into the hinterlands is just evidence that we are incapable of bringing young talent on.

That could explain why they've been trialing Abeid in a defensive midfield ball recycling role, and perhaps (if you were particularly cynical) why we've seen so little of Tiote this pre-season.

I just took it that @@nufcfans is a fucking imbecile tbh. Same as those calling for Kemen!

They're on of those accounts with several "contributors", none of whom have a single clue about football.

Selling Tiote would be a disaster on a par with selling Cabaye imo. Although it makes you wonder if that was the plan all along with us signing Colback. We have a history of players getting 'injured' just before a move.

Colback is half the player Tiote is and we are back to have Abeid/Bigi as first choice backup if one of our midfield gets injured. So much for us having a semblance of a squad this season

That illustrates pretty clearly that Colback is not upto playing the holding role in the PL. Not that the stats are telling us anything we didn't already know.

If Tiote is sold he simply must be replaced and if the asking price of 8mill is right we'd struggle getting the same sort of quality at that rate. I'm assuming that it would be a case of selling Tiote and using that coin to buy a younger replacement as a best case scenario.

Apparently Lokomotiv Moscow had a £3 million bid for Tiote turned down a couple of weeks ago. No news of an improved bid yet but it looks like the club would let him go.

Looking at it logically, how were we going to shoehorn Cheick, dejong, cabella, sissoko and colback all into the spine of the team? someones off, and its unlikely to be sissoko...Ashley doesn't really do "squad"...

tiote colback

sissoko de jong cabella

I wouldn't mind him being sold if we upgraded. I love Tiote and he does an important job for us as a spoiler but if we had someone who could do the same as bring other attributes to the table as well then okay. The fear and likelihood though is that we won't sign anyone if he goes and that's not acceptable.

Tiote has played well in about one quarter of his games for Newcastle. Obviously I've jacked it, but I still want us to do well. I think over £10m is a good deal for that player, 28 year old, I'm not against selling him.

Yeah he's a rare specialist in a vital speciality. I don't think we'd be able to replace him anytime soon. It's not the cost of these players, but their scarcity. While Colback, & Anita can play the role, neither of them are in his league.

I think slapping a £16m price tag on him should be enough to ward off all but the biggest clubs, and those we couldn't dissuade him from joining anyway.

I'm still baffled as to why we haven't tried to mould Bigirimana into his replacement? Bigi performed well in a central midfield role, has captained the reserve teams, and seems grounded enough to learn that this role that he's being groomed for is vital and blaah blah blah.

Not sure Bigi has the aggression or at the moment physique for it. Physically Sissoko would be ideal for it but he's a bit of a fanny. If we could coach some aggression into him he'd be great for bursting forward after winning the ball, I'm picturing almost Yaya style runs here  Not sure if you can coach that kind of mentality into somebody though.

Absolutely Bigi needs to bulk up, but that'll come.

No idea if he's aggressive on the pitch or not though.
