Yes Yes No If it's a well known act, they're not going to be riffing off the crowd and hoping something falls in their lap. They'll have their standard material that they'll fall back on to keep the warmth of the crowd. The New material will most likely be obviou; either the act will signpost it before/after or you'll tell (s)he isn't committed to it. definitely worthwhile as you get to see "behind the curtain" and feel like you're somehow part of the process, at the very least it's a cheap night with a good comedian in a more relaxed/intimate environment. Hen and Chicken in Islington is a favoured venue of some big acts, like Jiimmy Carr etc. where you can see stars for £7, instead of paying £35 at the Hammersmith Apollo Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The possible exception on the signpost are the telly stars with writing teams like Jimmy Carr. Warm up gigs will happen before a tour or before Edinburgh. Lots of them use it as a mid tour sharp up kind of thing, where they've had a bit of a break and just need a bit of match practice as it were. All been very good. So if its like that, don't hesitate.
