Ok I'm keeping the 1st month's comp nice and broad in terms of subject... Festive / Celebration. I know none of you are going to be thinking about photography over xmas so the aim of this month's comp is to make you keep your camera or phone on you over the festive period and hopefully take some nice pics that will document your xmas & new year. Upload your best one and hopefully you'll win :)

Images must be taken between today and the 20th Jan... I will be checking this in the EXIF data of the images so no cheating!!! Might be worth everyone reading the 'rules of engagement' sticky above this thread so they know what's expected of them.

I'll give you a few pointers to get you going but please bare in mind you can submit anything that fits the theme... this is just to maybe get you thinking of the types of pics you could take:

Xmas markets / stalls

Tree decorations

Children having fun (please make sure they are your own or you have permission 1st)

New years celebrations

Like I said they are just pointers and feel free to shoot what ever you want (within the theme).

Ant has very kindly offered to put up a prize for this month's competition... a years subscription to Amateur Photographer Magazine! So there's a little extra incentive to take some great photos over the festive period.

I am putting an extra rule in place for this month's comp - If less than 10 people submit an entry the prize will be withdrawn. I don't want Ant wasting his money on this if people aren't going to enter. So please make sure you enter something, and if you know anyone who's in to photography get them to sign up (if they aren't already a member) and enter.

Closing date for entries is Sunday 20th January and then voting via a poll will then take place to determine the winner.

Please don't submit entries in here as there's a thread specifically for that... post in here to chat about the theme and anything related, or questions you might have about it

What if you take a shot early, upload it and you take a better one later on, how about you're free to change your one entry until the voting starts?

Yeah that's fine... you should be able to edit the post but if not PM me and I'll remove the original effort so you can add a new one.

Please try not to do this if possible but makes no sense having a better shot and not being able to remove the inferior one so I'm happy to allow this :)

Thought there would be a "for your cinsideration" thread where we can put loads of attempts...and then another one that opens after xmas to put your final entry in for the vote. Whole point is to get us taking photos, not taking one and then stopping :)

Nope... I want you to pick your best one and post that. It's not about just taking one pic and uploading it, it's about taking lots then working out which is the best and uploading it. Feel free to either post other pics in the members pic area, or you could post a link to a Flickr set if you use that in the discussion thread, but the point is to keep the comp uncluttered and members to display their very best shot :)

Agree with Andy. I think the best way would be to post a few pics in the members area for feedback and chose one before the close to submit.

Basically the one others here say is shit is probably the winner ;)

Lets keep the discussion and comments in this thread please lads and leave the entries just for the competition... we've had to delete a few already from the entries thread so consider your wrists slapped ;)

It's tempting(your comp entry), but I'll respect your copyrights.

Ok, when I looked back and noticed that the theme was festive, I also realised how few festive shots I actually take  Over Xmas as I have time off I like to get outdoors. So a lot of our images were on walks etc. Not that festive! anyway, I settled on the one I picked as it is actually melting ice with sun reflections going through it, kinda reminded me of Xmas lights in nature. About as festive as I could get!
