David Kelly 404
Thought it was an excellent debut for the lad when you consider all of the circumstances surrounding it. Pardew threw him in at the deep and most certainly did he cope. Squad depth and buys for the future that can do a job now. This is the thing. We went into the season with our backup being untried young kids like Sammy and Shane. Now along with players like Perch and Shola (who while may not be good enough to be regular starters, are good enough to be cover) and players like Haidara who already have a seasons experience playing in a top league but who could progress to really be a first team regular. Defensively he looks as strong as Santon already!

aimaad22 38
Bit harsh that me thinks, been one of our better players this season even though its not saying much.
Toonpack 169
Bit harsh that me thinks, been one of our better players this season even though its not saying much. Has flashed some stuff going forward (occasionaly) but defensively (his main job) has not been very good IMO Thought Haidara looked like proper defender (as he got into the game) with some ability going forward, that's the better balance of the skills for the position for me. Gene_Clark 12
Massively encouraging debut; shows how the squad is improving & when the needs of Ferguson, Sammy etc need their cards ASAP. If we assume our best XI is -: Krul - Debuchy Yanga-Mbiwa Colo Santon - Tiote Sissoko Cabaye - Ben Arfa Gouffran Cisse This means we can name a bench including - Haidara, Taylor, Anita, Marveaux supported by lesser lights of Elliott with 2 from Shola, Perch, Bigi & Obertan That's 15 top quality players so far. As ever, we need to add a striker in the summer as well as doing the hard bit; keeping the rest of the squad.....

Yeah he's still got loads to learn and doing it when you've got Williamson and Perch as your CBs is probably not the best way to go about it. I think with time he can become a very decent defender. Not sure if we've decided LB is his best position though.
BigWalrus 0
Canny debut, but early days yet. I'd like to see him tested by a Premiership team who attack down the wide areas, as Kharkiv didn't offer too much of a threat down the wings.
sniffer 0
I wouldn't. I doubt he is anywhere near facing a decent premiership winger like Lennon, for example, who'd go past him at will. He's maybe one for the future but he looks like he has a lot to learn. He's maybe one for the future but he looks like he has a lot to learn. He was one of the best players on the pitch imo. You make him sound like some youngster who looked okay in spells but generally out of his depth which wasn't the case at all. He would need a bit of time to settle in the Premiership but going off that performance I would have no worries if he had to step in now.
Tom 2,993
I was reading In Bed With Maradona's 100 Best Players for 2013 & both Haïdara & Santon made the list. Awkward.

Tom 2,993
To be fair I don't think Oxlaide-Chamberlain's rise was entirely predictable & it was heavily aided by a poor run of form from Walcott. They aren't big fans of the premier league anyway I suppose.
Tooj 16
Apart from his inexperience showing in him getting booked another good performance from him.
Kid Dynamite 1,154
Yep. Santon should be looking over his shoulder after his recent performances
aimaad22 38
Thats the idea of having a strong squad isnt it? The whole defence was excellent today to be honest, even Simpson wasnt half bad. Mbiwa and Haidara(less so) are potentially different class though, what a welcome change from the kind of defenders we've been signing over the years.
Howmanheyman 4,433
Well that's twice I've seen this kid and he doesn't seem out of his depth at all. I hope he keeps at it as I'm impressed so far.
JawD 8
Was well impressed with him last night like. Getting involved going forward but much more assured at the back.
Aeris 0
Callum McBantheman will face at least a three match ban or more. http://www.telegraph...io-Haidara.html Still no news on the leg and the seriousness of the injury. Dr Gloom 2,931
Still waiting for scan results but apparently it might not be as bad as first feared.

BigWalrus 0
Can't see how it can be anything other than ruptured ligaments. It'll be impossible to tell how truly bad it is until he begins rehab.
