Does this mean there is a chance we won't leave after all? If MPs vote against article 50 will that be it kyboshed or just postponed?

In theory, that's what it sounds like, although you'd have to have quite a show of support from the public for that many MPs to countenance doing such a thing.

The good thing is it'll give them nowhere to hide. So if, as people think, Corbyn voted out of the EU, he'll do so again here.

It basically means that we can never leave the EU without it passing both houses.

This could force a GE.

Yes, let's hope not. Labour are nowhere near ready for that.

That said, Labour could ride the wave of the Remainers vote if they play it correctly. It could become a single issue GE. Fucking hell, it'd be an absolute bloodbath...

If they'd had a vote in Parliament instead of the shambles of the referendum then they would've agreed to remain by a huge majority. Now they'll all be banging on about :quotes:The will of the British people :quotes: like that normally concerns them.

Yeah but you know, he'll have some stuff about holding people's feet to the fire and so on. And UKIP look rudderless without him.

It's hard to call this though - you'd think all Labour MPs would vote for Remaining. The Lib Dems would and the SNP would. UKIP's one MP would vote for Brexit. So it's really down to the Tories - I could see BoJo voting Remain

it's perfectly logical, when you think about it, for a decision of this magnitude to be scrutinised by MPs. it's in the national interest. why it was ever put to a referendum in the first place, when the great unwashed have so little comprehension of the implications of leaving, is beyond me

It seems the backlash has started - The government has made clear it's going ahead anyway, with or without the courts apparently (wtf?), UKIP are up in arms calling for the judges to be sacked, the Brexiters are apoplectic...

Labour incidentally has made clear previously (through the PLP rather than Corbyn, I hasten to add) that they wouldn't seek to prevent Brexit if Parliament was able to scrutinise it. Just to ensure the best possible deal.

I fail to see quite how they can do that. The EU would have to now reject any attempt to trigger Article 50 that hasn't been ratified by parliament.
