Regarding the idea of a EU army, would it be such a bad idea? Surely it would reduce the stress on UK armed forces around the world by committing the forces of other nations to projects in which we're already involved?

Might rein in the stupid foreign policy ideas a bit too. Wasn't it first suggested by the UK anyway?

I still want to hear from CT how the EU did bend over.

Tut tut, I said “bent over backwards to get the deal done this week”.

They have been much more positive about trying to get it nailed down rather than letting it drag til after Xmas. Everything they have said this week has been upbeat rather than the tone of previous rounds.

It was only a 'commitment'. The EU are already reducing veto powers as we speak. I've kept an eye on it. Ever closer union means that we would have at some point to give up influence or accept more integration....It's how they do it.

“This is a democracy. Once the frame is agreed, we will start the legislative process. This is not a veto.”

The president’s statement means that Britain may not get the deal agreed by Mr Cameron if it ultimately votes to stay in the EU.

Mr Schulz, from the parliament’s centre-left Socialist grouping, however pledged that MEPs would be “constructive”, “fair”, and bring clarity to the deal.

The warning is a blow for Mr Cameron, who had explicitly earlier this month that the EU deal would be legally binding.

Clutching at straws. If/when our veto comes under threat, then is the time for debate. Meanwhile we were in a great place. Out of schenghen, out of the eurozone, and net benificiaries of research money etc. If that position wasn't sustainable, an orderly transition to EFTA could have been undertaken.

I'm surprised as a person keen on conspiracies you can't see the real reasons behind Brexit.

Yes, but what good would an army be with Italian, French and Greeks in it?

We will get something like EFTA anyway. Everything I look at as the days pass shows it. I still thing Br in any meaningful sense won't happen. :)

In fact once reciprocated free movement/domicile rights are granted for current citizens living around the EU a reduced form of free movement will continue as well. EU citizens living in the UK who leave will obviously be allowed back and visa versa.

I agree but we could hardly have done it in a more shambolic way!

There are some pluses. This ten year transitional deal will utterly fuck the conservatives. By the time it's over, the millenials will get us back in the EU lock, stock, and barrel.

They've always wanted a deal, the positivity from the EU suggests they're getting what they want. We've agreed to everything they've asked for so far. But no, they're the ones bending over backwards  What concessions have the EU made so far btw? The bill to leave  OR the promise of there being no hard border with Ireland?:lol::lol:

But but freedom! Sovereignty!

I've yet to hear a SINGLE example of an EU law that has negatively impacted on any individuals life.

Meanwhile, Brexit occurred just as wages were beginning to recover from the 2008 crash. Only Greece and Portugal have fared worse than us in living standards.
