I get that we are a country full of bigoted cunts that politicians have to pander to but just show some humanity ffs. What gives us more of a claim to live here than anybody else? Because we were lucky enough to pop out of a vagina here instead of some war-torn  shithole in the Middle East? Fuck off.

What a load of shit. We're one of the most tolerant countries on the planet and have laws that ensure such

If we’re so tolerant , you wouldn’t think we’d need laws to ensure it, though, would you?

You might think someone taking issue with the French for supposedly deliberately endangering the lives of refugees would have similar issues with a government whose policy doesn’t allow the same refugees to claim asylum until they arrive in the UK

Aye, Windrush springs to mind. Can’t think of many other countries to have topped that in recent years

It’s like saying apartheid-era South Africa wasn’t a racist society because some white people who lived there thought it was scandalous at the time. And no, that’s not me saying the present situation in UK is directly comparable to there and then.

The thing about Windrush is that, while it happening in the first place was bad enough, it’s arguably even worse that next to fuck all has been done to rectify it since.

There's still only 5% of Windrush victims have received compensation man. And the twats that are in charge of the purse strings would get back in tomorrow if there was an election, precisely because a sizeable portion either couldn't give a fuck or worse are supportive.

Windrush was a "scandal". If we were an intolerant country, it wouldn't be.

The Home Office “Hostile Environment” of which the Windrush scandal was a sort of flagship policy was brought in by Theresa May to keep the votes rolling in from pigshit bigots so am not sure where any of that sits under the heading of tolerance tbh . You wouldn’t have heard heard a thing about it without tireless work from the Guardian newspaper , specifically Amelia Gentleman https://twitter.com/ameliagentleman?s=21   .  For me it’s one of the worst things any UK government have ever done. As an attack on ordinary people it’s up there with Hillsborough iyam.

Johnson has set out a five point proposal to France to solve the issue. However, when the fifth point is ‘we’ll send the fuckers back to you’ it makes you wonder how serious they are about the first four points.

I'll tell you what lads, get yourself a boyfriend and go to Eastern Europe or the Middle East with him and you might change your mind

I agree that this is a pretty tolerant country. However, the only reason we're a more tolerant country than many of the ones you mention is because this country has a sizeable number of left leaning, compassionate people like the ones you're arguing with - not because our right wingers are better than anyone else's. So when you or anyone else goes on about how tolerant this country is, you're really saying how much good the left has done here, and how fortunate it is that we're able to make our presence felt.

Our method for doing this, and ensuring that the country is held to account on being tolerant and compassionate, is kicking off at the government day in day out about its relentless bullshit. That is the only reason anyone can even begin to consider this a tolerant country. If we left it to the right we'd be nowhere fucking near it, because our right don't really care anymore than anyone else's right. They look 'better' than those places you mention because we have lifted them up. We educated and shamed them into moving forward. If we ever want to get anywhere, we have to constantly hold their feet to the fire.

How do you think we became more tolerant than those places you mentioned ffs. By refusing to let intolerant and despicable actions be acceptable. The moment we say "ah well, we're still better than the Middle East" is the moment we give the government and the bigots permission to start backsliding.

Aye Peston said that 2 days ago though. He's another that regularly uncritically reports what Johnson says as if it's fact, so it's no big surprise that he's listened to some MPs waffle on and then reported what they've said as if it's some provable stat.

What a fucking embarrassment our PM is, publishes a bull shit letter on twitter and actually manages to get Patel disinvited from a EU meeting.

There's fuck all we can do about this situation, we gave up all our leverage when we left the EU. We didn't want to cooperate then, don't expect it now.
