Canon 5D MK III

Decided to go on a bit of a splurge and ordered a 5D MK III on Monday... now just waiting for it to arrive!!! Feck me I'm excited lol!

Had to buy a new all purpose fast zoom as my Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 isn't compatible with full frame bodies, so got the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 at £900 (couldn't afford the Canon version which by all accounts isn't much different anyway).

Taking my spending in 2 days to £3k!!!

Can't wait for the new body to arrive, and being able to shoot at high ISO's with little noise is going to make shooting weddings in dark churches an absolute dream!

Anyone interested in buying the Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 off me? Would do one of you a good deal if anyone's interested :) It's a class lens and the only downside to upgrading to a full frame camera as it's my favourite lens.

I'm a Canon man but don't have the money at the moment. :(

That's a shame... chances are I'll bung it on Talk Photography Forum's classifieds section or fleabay in about a week's time. If you find £600 lying around before then just give me a shout :)

Oh and my 5D MK III arrived today!!! Shame i'm at bloody work all day today and tomorrow :(

I've already got that lens...was considering getting a 7D as I'm not sure I really need full frame.

7D is a class camera like... only thing for me was shooting at ISO 3200 or 4000 in dark churches and getting very noisy images. If it weren't for that I'd still be using it as my main camera. I'll be using it now as my 2nd camera with the 70-200mm zoom on it to get candids etc so it's still going to be a very useful bit of kit for me, and so yeah based on all that I'd highly recommend it unless needing to shoot at really high ISO's on a regular basis

I noticed you can get a 7D from Digital Rev for under £700, which seems like a decent deal. They seem to be reasonably well rated online considering they're HK based. Any dealings with them?

If you're on Talk Photography then everyone seems to rave about Panamoz. HK based but supposed to be good on deliveries and you get a discount if paying by BT.

£650 here, plus you'll get discount by paying BT. You email them what you want and they will send a price etc.

Get yer kit from HDEW as otherwise Canon won't accept your warranty from anywhere like Digital Rev or Panamoz. They give your their own warranty but if it breaks you have to send it to Hong Kong to get it fixed which costs a bomb!

Dig Rev, Panamoz etc rip off the tax man by labelling their goods 'toy parts' and stuff like this to avoid paying VAT... that's why Canon wont touch anything from them.

HDEW pay the VAT and so you get an official 1 year Canon warranty, and then HDEW give you an additional 2 years of their own warranty on top, so you're covered for 3 years in total (mind those extra 2 years are probs the same as Dig Rev etc where you'll need to send it back to HK to have it fixed).

I got my new camera from HDEW and although slightly more expensive they were top class, and also unlike Panamoz you can ring them on a UK based number and talk to someone which is nice.

Digital Rev site suggests that they will come and collect the camera from you if it needs a repair, without you needing to pay anything to send it back.

Cheers for the tips though, I'll bear them in mind. It'll be a few months off anyway. Can't really justify spending £700+ on a camera when we're saving to move to a bigger house shortly.

Here's one of the pics from my pre-wedding shoot yesterday. 1st chance I've had to properly road test the camera and new lens... I am one very happy tog!

Sharp as a tack, captures and renders the colour amazingly... also the dynamic range is very impressive.

Obviously nowhere near the quality of your lens Andy.

It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and my parents asked me what I wanted for it so I'm going to finally upgrade and get the EF 50 mm f/1.8 II lens for my camera. Can't wait to get it. :)

Good choice mate... primes are cracking quality like, although in all honesty I hardly ever use mine (doesn't help the focus ring jams though so once I get it fixed I may use it more).

Am sure you'll have lots of fun with the f/1.8 part of the lens!
