Mike Ashley -- Irrelevant Cunt

You wonder if they`re aware of the rules and how transparent these statements are in terms of selectively responding to reports, or if they're actually incompetent and haven't read/understood the restrictions.

The face that uefa didn't refer to any clubs specifically is irrelevant. They reiterated that article 3 will apply. Which restricts both clubs playing in Europe.

Staggeringly poor from the football club to the extent someone of Lee Ryder's abilities has clearly written that.

The amount of daily shit Manchester United and clubs like them have to put up with in the press, and they just largely ignore it. If you're a big football club and you see newspapers writing what you perceive to be shit about you, you just ignore it. When you're a mickey mouse club who are highly offended by the slightest incorrect piece, then you prove how small time you are by showing how much you're offended by random political bollocks in the paper.

I expect you get what you pay for in terms of employees

Yeah I suspect this is the problem.

Unless you have a major Suarez like incident at the club, managing the PR of a football club should be a piece of piss. Just keep quiet and if the team wins, all PR problems will evaporate. Terrifying to think what this lot would conjure up if they actually had something to cope with beyond misguided attempts at point scoring against the Telegraph.

Suits their needs perfectly for the non internet majority who go on a Saturday and pick up the chronicle every now and then though. Most of those will read that and take it as confirmation there's no impact on nufc from Ashley buying into Rangers.

Forgotten by the time it would ever become an isue.

To be honest we're amongst a vocal minority. Fans who subscribe to podcasts, message boards and gorge on twitter aren't the majority, surely?

Most won't take the time to get the full picture.

Newcastle United Football Club accused The Telegraph on Saturday of lying in an article outlining why Newcastle and Rangers will not be able to play in Europe at the same time should Mike Ashley retain an influence at both clubs.

A Telegraph spokesperson responded: "We strongly refute this allegation. We believe we have acted appropriately at all times in this story."

In a statement headlined 'Caught Lying Again (The Telegraph)' Newcastle claim The Telegraph lied about having a statement from Uefa on the situation, quoting European football's governing body: "Uefa has not made any statement on specific clubs."

On Wednesday November 26, The Telegraph's North-East football reporter Luke Edwards contacted Uefa with specific questions regarding the situation should Newcastle and Rangers both qualify for Europe in the future with Ashley, who is Newcastle's owner and holds a 9% stake in Rangers, still involved at both clubs.

Uefa responded in writing in a statement which pointed us towards their regulations related to multi-ownership cases.

These state that: "No club participating in a Uefa club competition may, either directly or indirectly ... have any power whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of any other club participating in a Uefa club competition."

Ashley sits at the head of the Newcastle board. In return for a recent emergency loan from Ashley two former directors at Rangers were removed and replaced with two people of his choosing. One of these was the former Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias, who has been given the title “non-executive director”.

There are several clauses in the regulations which Ashley's dual interests appear to contravene.

The Telegraph has been banned from St James's Park since September for a story which outlined Ashley's takeover plans at Rangers and suggested that Newcastle United were for sale. Despite amending and clarifying our story on the latter subject at the time, the club has continued to exclude The Telegraph from its stadium and media activities.
