Two former Newcastle stars with great seats for tonight's CL QF. Neither of them quite good enough to start though, the grass isn't always greener.

More so in Cabaye's case, but it depends whether you think it's better to be a handsomely paid squad (yet still used) player for a trophy winning team or a less well paid big player for a (brutally honest) well-supported nothing team.

Do you think John O'shea and Wes brown are kicking themselves that they wasted all that time collecting medals and being backups at Manchester United when they could have been getting regular football as the main men at a Sunderland/Wigan/whoever all along?

Martinez has them playing brilliant stuff, the ball in from Baines for the first goal was top class. That Barkley is going to be one hell of a player if he keeps this rate of development up, he's already running most games for them. Shows what you can do on a tight budget if you have a good manager and back the team when it needs to be backed...

How so? They haven't had a net spend since 2009.

Reinforces my other point then, and shows the impact a good manager has.

I was also meaning more they're happy to work to improve their side most windows even if they aren't spending much. Whereas our lot have tended to be happy with the side and tried to go without signing anyone.

I'd agree with you. They were lucky to have Moyes for so long who was able to work with such a restricted budget. The main difference, as you have alluded to, is that Kenwright genuinely wants to see the club do as well as possible.

Agreed, that's a more accurate picture. Kenwright has a genuine love for the team and wants to watch good football and have the team push for Europe, whereas Ashley is mostly concerned with simply staying in the league.

We really need a manager with a good system and picks players to go into that system and as a result gets more out of them. It seemed like Pardew had that early on when he seemed to be able to rely on his defence, condense the field and get more out of players like Perch and Obertan (mainly during that 11 game unbeaten run), but unfortunately that's clearly fell apart.

Or taking our humiliating drubbings to another level and cementing even further how far away from being a decent team we are.

And the salt in the wound that would be Liverpool winning the title against us.

Salivating at the thought of us somehow playing well in the final game of the season (at Anfield!) and beating that lot to deny them the title.

Would partly make up for this diabolical season.

:jesuswept:

It certainly would not make up for it. If essembee came out with similar only swapped Sunderland for Liverpool he'd have been slaughtered. They're all arseholes at the top of the table, doesn't matter a jot who wins it, what matters is our club which is being eroded by a number of cunts. A win over Liverpool, Man U or whoever won't make me forget the shambles we're witnessing.
