Keeping fit

Aye it's definitely worth a look. There's a bloke in Tynemouth does it but there's bound to be people in Paris as well. Even just reading the book. The whole approach takes the effect of repeated impact out of the equation.

Just cos you're a waddler.

Yes cycling is much better but 30 minutes of cycling around Paris is half as efficient as running for cardio and poses health risks of its own.

I've been in the gym for 5 months and by the looks of things in way better shape.

Why don't you do the gym? Cuts out all the air pollution for a start. ;)

Do the Omega oils that's good for knees.

I ended up on one of those French Boris bikes in Paris going the wrong way down a one way road in the rain, in rush hour. Absolutely terrifying.

The big city air quality thing does worry me. I do a lot of my running in the evenings and even on non-main roads you can pretty much taste the accumulated crap you're inhaling. Still better than artificial motion on a treadmill though, I used to bash out 5k and 10k in the gym but I'll only use the treadmill for sprint intervals as part of a wider session now.

Me and the wife hired them in London to get from the West End to Carnaby Street. It was dark, raining and in rush hour. I was riding with one hand with my phone on sat nav in the other and nearly got flattened by double decker buses at every junction. Biggest laugh id had in ages though, we pissed ourselves the whole way

Just started 7 a side with the lads from work. Been 3 years since I last kicked a ball and 10 since I did it seriously.

Class is permanent but fitness isnt and Im sore as fuck the day after, miles better than the gym though.

My team leader has just joined a gym and went yesterday for a session with the trainer. She's in agony today.. I've warned her about tomorrow. :D

I'm sadistic so I love some DOMS. I like mixing my routine up regularly just so my body can feel thoroughly broken in the days that follow something new.

After over four years now of suffering due to my back issues I had an appointment at Rake Lane yesterday with a specialist who is aiming to setup some form of physical excercise program for me, will be a bit of trial and error at first but I go back to the gym in the hospital for the first of a minimum of 12 weekly sessions next week.

Having went from excercising at least 5 days a week to not being able to do anything overnight was hard to take for me. I go out on my road bike every now and again but can only manage so much before having to stop.

Just doing something is a huge positive as far as I am concerned, even if I am not expecting much.

Good luck! You may find that exercise, even if it's light exercise, helps with your rehabilitation from your back injuries.

I obviously haven't suffered with my back anything like you but I did have what they call a lower back disc protrusion a while back. It was pain like I've never known for about a month and I was worried exercise was off the cards for good, but I found getting back in the gym and doing more stretching and mobility work in particular really helped.

Good luck Tooj.

I ride every day, race in the season, do gym twice a week. I would be crushed if I had an issue like you. I broke my wrist last year and that fucked me up enough but at least I could still use the turbo and run!

Good luck, hope it works out. Funnily enough, having been passed from pillar to post for a medical thing for the last 6 years, I've finally come across a consultant with a plan to get it sorted too. You've just got to persevere til you get one that's interested.

Anyway hope it sorts you out and you can get off those tablets, cos that can't be good for you long term.
