Nathan Dekoké has agreement in principle for a pre-contract with Newcastle

Get French Football News understands that Premier League side Newcastle United have agreed a pre-contract in principle with young St Étienne centre back Nathan Dekoké.

Our colleagues at France Football reported last week that Newcastle were negotiating to sign the player on a free transfer in June 2014 when Dekoké’s contract expires with St Étienne. Dekoké’s representatives have managed to agree a rough contract in principle for the player to sign in June but the deal is far from complete.

The player has yet to decide whether or not he will at first consider St Étienne’s proposed contract extension or indeed if he will wait for any other interest to appear for his services.

Nothing has been agreed by Dekoké in terms of a contract, merely a provisional contract has been drawn up and the player and his agents are satisfied with those provisional terms.

If Dekoké gives Newcastle the all clear and agrees to join them for next season the Premier League side will still have to agree on the amount of compensation they pay St Étienne for the player, who is barely an adult.

More undoubtedly to follow in the coming days.

Never played a single game for them, but is apparently highly rated.

Can you imagine the excitement on here if we actually do sign this kid after everyone convincing themselves that we aren't actually going to.

We'd never do it for £14mill but I don't see why we wouldn't got in for £8m or so (if they'd take it). He's exactly our kind of player. Maybe over the summer though.

SSN quoting Harry Rednapp regarding Remy " I dont know what the deal is. You'd think they'd want to snap him up,wouldn't you. If they dont then someone else will. For what we got him for he's probably worth double that now. He's scored goals in the premier league again this year. "

And as he has shown in the past, he will move to the highest bidder. QPR were virtually certainties to go down, yet he was quite happy to take their money, despite shaking hands on a deal with NUFC.

All another club has to do is offer him £80-100k per week and we're priced out.

Unfortunately that's the way it is now offer a few extra quid (000s) a week and its thankyou & goodnight there's no loyalty there was a time when players would play for 1 or 2 clubs for their career now it's all very mercenary like.

No interest in signing him permanently anyway. I think barring a few games he's been no more than an average premier league striker, and that's not good enough for the fee and wages we'd be expected to pay, especially when you will get no loyalty at all in return. He was shit against the mackems and has been poor consistently over the last 5 games, not counting a pair of goals in a rout of 9-man Stoke.
