Well it's a long and proud institution.

Not often you see a photo of Thatcher with someone else and you genuinely have to consider which one of them you despise more.

He has no reason to call a snap election now. Even his complete unawareness and thick skin will know that would be a huge gamble.

Will it though, he's the sort that believes he's right and everyone else is wrong.

Javid to make statement after PMQs

Sajid Javid will make a statement to the House of Commons following Prime Minister's Questions this afternoon.

Mr Javid quit as health secretary last night, kicking off a series of resignations from senior and junior Conservative ministers.

The ex-minister will set out the reasons behind his departure in what could be a damaging statement for Boris Johnson.

Those with long memories in Westminster recall Geoffrey Howe's devastating resignation statement in 1990 which helped topple Margaret Thatcher.

The bit in bold crossed my mind this morning, but it's more about Sunak than Javid. I'm pretty certain Sunak's resignation is the highest profile by a close political ally to a serving Prime Minister since Howe's.

If he's any balls on him, or future political ambition, he'll have to speak up in Parliament today as well.

Guardian suggesting Johnson might miss the liason committee meeting this afternoon. His excuse being he needs another reshuffle. Jesus wept.

Letters of no confidence / withdrawal of support are flying around. Lee Anderson & Robert Halfon are the latest.

What chance Starmer calls a Parliamentary motion of no confidence in the government? Lib Debs are pushing for it but it'd need to come from Labour. Just wonder if they want the police investigation out of the way first but we're headlong towards the summer recess. This abomination needs sorting out before then.

If that happens then we're on for a GE rather than forcing Johnson out. Of course he may decide to leave because of it and a new leader wins a vote of confidence but I doubt the Tories have enough spines in their backbenches to back the motion.
