The bit in bold crossed my mind this morning, but it's more about Sunak than Javid. I'm pretty certain Sunak's resignation is the highest profile by a close political ally to a serving Prime Minister since Howe's. If that happens then we're on for a GE rather than forcing Johnson out. Of course he may decide to leave because of it and a new leader wins a vote of confidence but I doubt the Tories have enough spines in their backbenches to back the motion.
