One for the medical peeps in here - is a umbilical hernia anything to worry about? I've got a swelling in my navel which is quite tender. I've had it before (about 12 months ago) but it calmed down. Seems to have come back though.

Wondering if it's anything to do with dehydration as I cannot seem to get enough fluids on board of late. Considering doing an e-consult later in the week if it doesn't go down.

My Brother In Law had his operated on earlier this year. Can't remember how long he was laid up for but it was maybe 6 weeks - he's got a manual job though, and lifting anything heavy is out of the question.

Nothing to do with dehydration though, as far as I'm aware, and I don't think they fix themselves. But the doc won't do anything until you look like you've got a second (bigger) knob.

I've got this although it doesn't trouble me, just looks unattractive. A friend, though, had it and ended up with 'strangulated hernia', I think the tube bent over internally?, pretty serious and after a night of pain and sickness he was taken in for emergency surgery, luckily all the pipes were still 'live' so they straightened it out, emptied blocked areas and tucked it back in and stitched him up, I think he was sore for a few weeks but all good from a worrying episode.  You may want to look up that strangulated term and take advice if you are feeling any pain.

ps. his problem occurred just after a boys weekend in Latvia, so whether it was literally a gut reaction to drinking lager instead of proper beer, who knows..?

Cheers both. Hernias seem to be something I'm susceptible to. Had one as a kid that needed an operation and was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia last year which just has to be managed.

This thing though ... definitely uncomfortable. Feels like something is prodding me in my belly button all the time. In the grand scheme of things, given that two of my best mates have advanced stage cancer, it's fuck all but for the sake of those around me thought better to get it checked.

It's worth highlighting mate as it's rife in my family - my old man definitely has it. Probably worth being tested. Cheers

If you're uncomfortable, definitely go to the docs. I think it would be excruciating if you had the strangled thing, so I wouldn't worry about that, but don't sit around in discomfort.

And aye, definitely get checked for the diabetes. You can pretty much reverse it if you go on the Newcastle diet (genuine thing if you Google it). My step-dad did it and sorted himself but the stupid cunt thought that meant he was cured for life and now he's got it back.

One of the handful of times I've given my Dad an absolute bollocking was when I rung him up and my step-mam answered the phone and said he was unwell - racing heart and cold sweats. Turns out the stupid cunt had been to a gather and decided to stuff his face full of cake!

Despite her protestations, I made her put him on the phone. Totally fucking irresponsible, and avoidable.

Think diabetes is routinely tested for if you've had a well man's etc. But get checked out. Also the hernia. As others have said, it won't fix itself. And you may get complications.

I think quite often when you're off the drink you become aware of all your niggles and potential maladies. Well done on knocking it on the head though.

I'd echo this. While the numbing effect of booze isn't a viable solution to anything in the longer term, it is undeniable. Which is annoying.

I've an inguinal Hernia and been for a CT Scan, but chances are they won't do anything until it gets strangulated or "incarcerated".

@Craig if you've got private healthcare through work, I'd go to them about assessment and surgery if I were you. Won't get sorted straight away, but it'll knock half a year off the NHS wait-time.

One for you brainy people @Renton I mean you.

I've got my flu jab booked in a few weeks and whilst wanking on my sun lounger I thought 'how is it updated annually ' so googled it and it said this

Quote

Annual flu vaccines are updated by global surveillance of circulating flu viruses to select strains predicted to cause the most illness in the upcoming season, with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommending strains each February for the Northern Hemisphere and September for the Southern Hemisphere. Vaccine manufacturers then use these selected strains to produce the new vaccine, often through an egg-based production method. This annual update ensures the vaccine targets the most relevant viruses, as influenza viruses constantly change.

So is it updated in Feb '25 for example and we get that in October '25 onwards? Isn't that when everyone gets it? Or are we getting an out of date one?

No because the boffins design the vaccine predictively based on very complex modelling. Usually they get it right but not always.

I've got one at three o'clock today, I didn't have one last year for some reason and was absolutely floored on Christmas eve, day and the days after....

So hoping to avoid a repeat of last year's shit show.

Mine is a week on Monday. It was meant to be last week but I realised I'd missed it a good half an hour after my appointment time. Went on the boots website and I was somehow still able to move it.

So could the vaccine change over the time they're giving out the vaccination?

Really interesting stuff.

Went to the pharmacy yesterday to collect my repeat prescription of my mong tablets.  Opened a new strip up today and the tablet is that small it's like trying to eat a bit of hundreds and thousands.  WTF!

I am able bodied, what the fuck are the expecting someone who has issues to do with the tiny fuckers.  Wankers.

Think Wor lass has or has had the 'vid.

Had her Flu jab a couple of weeks ago.  Feeling rough for a few days..  Last weekend started to feel better went out for her usual Sunday long run and all good.  Woke up Monday feeling tired which was normal.  Tuesday woke up bunged up.  Then Weds & Thursday she couldn't get out of bed.  I haven't ever seen her like that.  She was a little better yesterday. Today she has improved a bit. Just snoozing now after being in the garden just for some fresh air really.

I have my Flu Jab on Monday, fucking hope I don't get smashed like she has (not by big Cally) like.
