People talking about using the CL as a vehicle for SD (with Rangers) haven't read the advertising rules for the CL and its 8 key sponsors.

Aye, good point. Unless he's their shirt sponsor or he renames their stadium he won't be able to shoehorn in any SD logos.

Still need a big investment on players to get into the group stage, might as well do that with us...Renaming the stadium would be war.

But he could do that in a flash he's already bought Ibrox for £1 and I'd imagine the shirt thing wouldn't be a problem either.

So in the unlikely event we end up back in the CL what would he do about the fuck off SD logo on the roof?

He'd have to cover it. Uefa have done this cunning thing where they nick the advertising money up front from the key sponsors, similar to fifa and the WC branding/partnerships.

You reckon the cost if getting a PL team into the champions league rather than Rangers is small enough not to warrant a change?

the Premier league spent 850 million on players this summer, Man U spent 150 million and quite possibly won't get the CL this season, Celtic made 7 million and will win the league.

Talking about getting 'any' team into the Group stage of the CL. Winning SPL doesn't guarantee group stage of the CL anymore...There are 3 qualifying rounds to get through now.

3rd qualifying round often includes the likes of PSV, Lyon, Arsenal and so on....

Anyway Pardews presser should be good for a laugh today, he's going to explain the transfers.

Any idea what time that presser is?

My thing with this is that I don't think NUFC is that much of a concern for Ashley; it's Rangers. The longer it takes to buy Rangers the more expensive it'll be and the return on investment won't be as large and we know he's all about roi. Isn't it the case that it was always Ashley's intent to "flip" us as soon as possible? Surely this would be his plan for Rangers too?

Not sure what people are expecting from the presser.

Probably confirm the usual that they had 2 or 3 main striker targets that they hung on for and while they didnt get them this window, much better to hang on 12 weeks and get first choices than tie up also rans for 5 years.

i guess he'll also say that mwibia didnt like it here, too rough etc as the player has also confirmed.

finally on fatem, bored with it move on.

Newcastle United has today banned the Daily Telegraph with immediate effect following a report published in its paper yesterday (Thursday, 11th September), headlined 'Newcastle United For Sale As Ashley Eyes Rangers', as well as a follow-up article from the same reporter which appears in the Daily Telegraph today (Friday, 12th September).

The reports by Luke Edwards on 11th September, and again today (12th September), are wholly inaccurate and written with the intention of unsettling the Club, players and its supporters.

This is disgraceful journalism for which the Club and its supporters should receive a full and unreserved apology from those concerned.

The truth is Mike Ashley remains committed to Newcastle United.

For the avoidance of doubt, this means that for the remainder of this season and AT LEAST until the end of next season, Mike Ashley will not, under any circumstances, sell Newcastle United at any price.

The Club cannot be stronger in stating its position on this matter.

It is not acceptable for newspapers to print factually inaccurate reports that are damaging to the Club and to fail to check facts with Newcastle United ahead of publication and then expect to receive access to the Club.

Newcastle United will not tolerate this and will take such action as it deems appropriate.

The ban extends to all reporters working for, or freelancing on behalf of, the Daily Telegraph, as well as Luke Edwards in any capacity he may have working for the paper's sister title or on a freelance basis.
