Newcastle face stiff competition from European clubs for the signature of Egyptian international striker Amr Zaki.

Zaki, who is currently on international duty has reportedly interested Bordeaux, Nantes, Bayer Leverkusen and one other as yet unamed English side.

The ENPPI forward who has scored 11 goals in just 12 international starts told egyptianplayers.com, ""There is an English agency that has spoken to ENPPI and my club has said to them, just today, that they have the permission to take on my case.

"In four days they (the agency) will give the club two offers from England. One of them is from Newcastle United and is worth £1.3 million or more."

Zaki who should have little difficulties in securing a work permit was recently voted third in the Egyptian Player of the Year award and hinted that a move could be completed before the Affrican Cup of Nations begins.

"It is possible that the English offer can be confirmed, inshallah (God willing), before the tournament.

"However, the English company is trying to bring the highest fee," he added.

a couple of sites running the story... anyone heard of him?

This would be typical of us.  We won't shell out the 2 million Charlton want for Murphy (a proven premiership player) but we will pay more than half of that for someone no one has ever heard of and who unlikely to settle here.

Or we won't sign him but will see him to move to a rival club where he is becoming the world GREAT©est goalscorer...

...then sign him several years later for an inflated price and he turns into shite.

If there is anything to this rumour, it would seem that Souness can't win whatever he does then.

That rule was established the day he was appointed tbh.

Well, he could have overthrown this rule by proving his critics wrong (or making us eat humble pie as Hansen said)...

according to someone on N-O he's world class and one to watch out for. Probably has 18/20 for finishing and pace

World class like N'Zogbia was world class off the back of the Chelsea game, probably. The next Thierry Henry tbh.
