Makes sense not to enforce the follow-on usually as it’s often the only way to give the opposition a chance. Absolutely the correct thing to do here though

We’ve got options in the bowling department like we haven’t had for a long time. If only wood could stay fit. I’d love to see him bowl alongside archer in the next ashes series. With pace like that, we might stand a chance.

They’re still quality bowlers. Not quite as effective down under where they both average north of 35.  We had no genuine pace in the last squad to tour Australia. Now we’ve got two who can bowl 90+mph to compliment the swing bowlers.

Pope looks the real deal too. Then you have Sibley and Burns, who look more promising than many of the recent experiments at the top of the order.

5-0 away series win, I reckon.

Poor shot from Root, no foot movement at all, as he nicks one to de kock, failing to convert yet another 50.

Then Curran gets himself out playing a horrible drive first ball.

No need to go flashing that far outside off stump first ball from Curran. V poor from him.

Buttler “plying for his test career”, according to Farbrace, at the other end.

The tail wagged big style as it has done so  often in recent years but this time the solid start meant it carried us to 400 nor just a half decent total. This batting lineup is starting to look the part. Especially as Burns will come back into the reckoning

Still question marks over Denly at 3, who makes lots of 20s and Buttler as WK/batsman, when Foakes is surely going to get another chance at some point.

But the young openers both look like they understand how to bat in tests. And Pope is an exciting prospect at number 6. With Burns to come back it’s all very positive.
