Vauhagn has been pretty scathing about Sibley and Lawrence not being test standard and it's hard to argue with him.  The thing is, I'm not sure which of the players, other than Root, Stokes, Broad and Anderson, and probably Woakes, are.  The young players just aren't improving and the likes of Bairstow, Buttler and Ali keep looking like they are just white ball specialists.

The ECB's focus on white ball competitions definitely isn't helping.  The Ashes is a frightening prospect currently.

Can’t see us doing much down under without Archer. We needed him and Wood firing to stand a chance really. Robinson could get some joy on Aussie wickets but he’s a test match rookie. Could be a long series

I wouldn’t mind giving him a go at 6 or something in the future but we need to try something else before the ashes because the Aussies are going to be licking their lips looking at our current top 3

Out to a straight one again, man. On the stroke of tea. Batted when batting was at its easiest too. 75 caps? The mind boggles.

You’re right what you say about him re: today though

Bairstow looked good for his 30 before picking out the fielder on the boundary so well with a hook shot that he didn’t have to move

Well that was shit.

It was actually a brilliant test match until the late collapse where England’s flimsy batting was exposed yet again.

The pressure was put on the batting lineup by the terrible tactics bowling at the tail though. And while I don’t particularly rate Root as a captain that’s on the bowlers as much as it’s down to him

Yes, I don’t get why they spread the field after removing the two danger men. Bizarre tactics bowling at two bowlers averaging single figures with the bat.

Durham have been superb in the competition this year helped by losing non of their batsmen to the hundred and Rushworth getting more of a run out than he has in recent years with Carse, Potts & Raine all at the Northern team.

Hopefully they have Beddingham tied down to a long term contract because he's been unreal in all formats.  South Africa must surely be looking at him.  Some talk of a possibility for Lee's to come into one of England's troublesome top order positions too.  He's averaged well over 40 since moving to Durham.

Of course, like everyone else out of the side, Lees hasn’t played any red ball cricket since the beginning of June

Not like those who have been in the side have been playing much red ball cricket either
