Premier League shake up

Chatting to a mate last night about how many fucking nothing clubs there are in the Premier League, and what could be done about it.

We came up with the following:

1-3 get Champs as normal.

4 & 5 have Play Off for final CL spot

16th & 19th, and 17th & 18th face each other in a play off for survival

20th Relegated

Bottom club doesn't deserve a get-out-of-jail chance, and clubs that've spent much of the season being utter shit should face the very real possibility of relegation up until the final whistle goes.

Sky & BTsport would love it, the Champions League Play off could be Scudamore's "39th" game, it'd give teams like Newcastle 08/09 a chance to survive on the final day.

It stretches out the relegation zone, there's normally not many points between 11th and 16th, and clubs like villa, sunderland, Hull etc. should be made to pay for being boring. (he's not a Newcastle fan, and doesn't see what the mackems add. Says their fans are loyal, but quiet)

Anyway, just a pub conversation that I thought had merit.

IMO the only club that deserve the CL is the champions!

agree. let the other four or five clubs compete in the uefa cup, which would restore some credibility to that competition.

Yeah. It's desperately needed as well. The Europa League format is fucking dire. Shame no one gives much of a shit about it (well, in England). UEFA cup used to be class.

I know what you mean. Take the 1981-82 European Cup for example. Instead of being in a first round group stage with less credible teams like FC Barcelona, AC Milan or Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa had to beat the true heavyweights Valur in the first round.
