Canny area Gloom.  Away from the main crowds of Windermere, Ambleside etc.  Some cracking walks from the area too.

We are looking at where to go in 2018 but fuck me.  With the wedding etc last year we didnt go into Europe apart from myself I went to Belgium early on for the cycling.  Looked last night at a place I stayed in Ibiza.  Last time we stayed was in 2016 and we paid £800 each for a week.  Its closer to £1.4k each now! JAYSUS!

Europe is horribly expensive now for some reason I can't put my finger on....

There’s a canny few possibilities on AirB&B @Dr Gloom , here’s a couple from Keswick and Ambleside area- they’d work out at around £80-90 per couple per night, which isn’t too bad.

It’s quite nice actually...

Immigration controls this morning at the Dfds terminal were quite horrible.

Did a stadium tour with the kid today. Not too bad actually.

How do people book there holidays now?  Do seperate buys for each part, i.e flights then hotel or get a package?

My Best holiday left home by car with 4 days booked at Lake Garda. Had a week to get there and a week to get back. Every other night was booked on route via laptop.

that sounds like a nightmare tbh driving 1500-2000km or something i'd guess, would you not be fucked off doing that considering what you do for work ?

Nah, love driving / hate flying.

My idea of hell is spending two weeks at a resort in one hotel. Walking dead stuff imo.

Looking at a map and just heading off seeing different countries / Regions was amazing. Road trip the yanks call it.

But overall, driving abroad is a much more pleasurable experience than driving in the UK.

I really like Ambleside. Not that Keswick isn’t nice. But it’s probably got the best eating and drinking options in the National Park and also has loads of walks which begin there. There’s ‘proper’ ones like the Fairfield Horseshoe but others that practically everyone could do eg the Coffin Trail to Grasmere, Loughrigg Fell and Wansfell via Stockghyll Force. It’s nice and central too with places like Grasmere, Coniston and Great Langdale all just short drives away. I’ve used Lakelovers loads of times for renting properties and the standard has always been high. The only issue you’ll have is that you’ll probably have to rent out a place for a week if it’s a large house you’re after as most won’t  do it for a short break outside of low season.

Just been browsing that, there's some cracking places on there and I'm sounding out a few mates to see if we can get 5 couples together and get one of the nicer houses for a holiday. There was one with all the mod cons, decent location, family and Dog friendly, and we could get the lot for £250 per person for a week. And those who couldn't make it for the whole week are the ones who wouldn't baulk at paying £250 for a long weekend away. So cheers for the hint.

Absolutely no bother, my dear old thing

Worth checking out Castlerigg Stone Circle given you’re pretty close to it. The location is stunningly, especially if you’re lucky enough to get a fairly clear day
