I walked in to bar in Porthmadog and ordered in English and the whole place , staff included, started speaking in Welsh, having been chatting away in English as we came in.

I let them pour the pints then walked out- put that in your pipes, early 1990s Welsh Nationalists!

Heading over to the Nith Valley near Dumfries at lunchtime for a long weekend with the family.

Taking the mutt, so I’m hoping to have fresh lamb tomorrow :whistling:

I was shaving my bonce earlier and it struck me that in your 50s, “holiday trim” has a very different meaning than in your 20s.

We go down there quite regularly, it’s gorgeous if the weather is decent.

Would recommend a drive to Port Merion if you have a car, it’s about an hours drive and a all a bit batshit but in a good way

Definitely, and depending on the weather and if you fancy another 30 minutes on top, I'd recommend Abersoch too.

I need to get back to the big smerk on the Sunday already so I'm leaving that for next time, but the mate who's coming on the trip with me has booked himself an extra couple of nights in Porthmadog to explore the coast after I leave, the cheeky cunt. I'll be passing on your ideas. Through gritted teeth.

We are actually heading down that way tomorrow morning. Staying in some fucking shepherd hut she has booked that doesn’t even have its own shitter.

Actual communal shower blocks in this day and age. It’s been a while since I had a verruca I suppose

Does this mean you are, or are not in the big smerk next Wednesday?

Have we obliviously obeyed London's 1 in 1 out rule?

I am spending the time in the north of Italy at the moment, apart from masks and having to prove vaccinations in restaurants, everything seems very much back to normal. Venice was as crowded as ever.

 My lass is desperate for us to do Glastonbury next year and I’ve told her it’s one of those luxury tents with space heaters and showers or it’s nowt. “The festival experience” of sitting in your own filth and holding in a shite for 2 days at a time because the toilets are like an abattoir holds no appeal. Get me away from those scruffy bastards.

Yeah I’m 37, sometimes I don’t even know I need a piss until dick is in my hand. Can’t be arsed running about in the dark to find a toilet bunker.

Looking back, even when I was young I hated the camping at festivals. I stayed in a hotel a primavera in Barcelona and it was infinitely more civilised.

That's it, yep. We went up Pyg and down Llanberis, which was definitely a good combination. I felt sorry for the poor buggers slogging all the way up Llanberis - it may be shallower but it seems unthrilling.

Even had time for half an hour at the National Slate Museum before getting the bus back. Fascinating stuff.

I used to climb in the Dinorwic slate quarries, over the lake from Llanberis- it’s an otherworldly place in the less frequented parts.

Anyway, it’s an excuse to post this.

( originally it had “Yo Mamma” as background music, but one of Zappa’s sons has gone full bastard with copyright and had the soundtrack deleted).

if you cba with the full video, skip to 4:30 for where the insane moves start.

Jesus christ. That is fucking insane. I've never done more than easy scrambling outside of a climbing wall. No head for heights and now definitely nowhere near enough strength or flexibility.

Cribgoch was probably the worst ridge I ever did (I bottled Aonach Eagach). Its actually quite brutally vertical, had to keep complete focus not to die, or so it felt. I remember I passed a lass who was completely crag fast on it. She had Jimmy legs shaking like a pneumatic drill and I really felt she might fall. I left it for a more experienced walker to help her as I had to look after myself first at this point. Anyway, unless you're a climber or have a great head for heights, I wouldn't recommend Crib Goch.

It is , aye.
First done in 1987 by Dawes, it’s had very few repeats since.

It’s a route based on friction on rock that is famous for being slippery as fuck.

I read an article by someone who abseiled in to try the pitch in the video ( it’s three pitches long, the last one being a “fuck you” difficult wall) and they said the only way to keep your feet in contact is to find patches of rougher minerals on the wall and use friction and constant pressure.

Edit; I did Crib Groch once in what turned out to be perfect conditions for a “Glory”.
Bit like a Brocken Spectre but you see your shadow surrounded by a rainbow halo.
It was mental peering over the edge and seeing your shadow on the cloud below, looking like LGBQT Jesus
